is there a way to add a tiptronic transmission to an automatic?

im sure there is a way, however the process will be complicated or cost prohibitive. in addition you still have the lossy torque converter in the way.

You would need a whole new TCM to do that. Personally I don't think its worth it just for the "simulated" shifting. It came standard in my other car, and I can tell you honestly that it makes no difference whatsoever in your acceleration. Auto transmissions are smart, let them decide when to shift, they'll do it more efficiently than you ever can. Plus the auto is what is sucking up like 15-20 of your HP, so no matter what you'll still have less power to the wheels, tiptronic or not.
