vtec wins. not only that the honda motors run higher oil compression if i remember correctly which is the reson why the blocks basically last forever and reason why ppl drop turbos

im with the 4g63 crowd always been a fan since the evo6. my 4g64 died on me (i'm never gonna go below 2.4l ever now )

Forget about compression for the moment and would someone explain why comparable i-VTEC is superior to VVT-i? I'm talking about the economy i-VTEC found on the K20A3 and not the i-VTEC with the high lift lobe.

The "problem" with the 2AZ and most recent Toyota engines is that they weren't designed from the ground up for sport. The tC uses its sheer size advantage and short gearing to account for all its "sportiness." Other than that design difference, why is VVT-i worse than VTEC?

i think the ivtec k20a3 "without the high lift lobe" runs 12valves and the other 4valves runs halfassed until needed this vtec is just for fueleconomy and should be compared (seriously how are u gonna pick this to compare to us). someone correct me on this one i'm not 100% sure

the ivtec not only uses valve timing for intake and exhaust mostly on higher revs. it also adjusts the camposition(retard or advance) (VTC), which is why you cant forget about oilcompression honda depends on this plus it helps them rev higher.

with my understanding vvti delivers power on a wider range of rpms due to valve timing. the reason why toyota puts out lowreving engines like ours.
vtec uses higher revs high lift valves for power. in the long run better and better if the driver can keep at highrpms
its not worse to say but vtec is older technology compared to vvti; honda has addedon and improved on there vtec (ie i-vtec)

I'm not 100% certain either, but the VTEC style youre describing is very similar to the old D16Z6 and D16Y8 (SOHC VTEC). Except 16 valves are still used at all times. THe difference is, below 5000RPM, one of the intake valve in each cylinder has low lift. When VTEC mode comes in, it has high lift.
