The tC engine and the Camry are not the same to a certain degree. The big issue is the rod and crank bearings; I have ordered some for ZPI. The tC bearing are very difficult to locate and will most likely have to come from Japan directly. The Camry bearings are easy to find.

The oil-lets are the main issue, the second is the bearing numbers, and you will not know which bearing offset you will need until you strip the motor down. The bearings have a 1, 2 and 3 gap for the RODS and the MAIN bearings. Technically you need to have all three sets, 1, 2, 3 rod and 1, 2 and 3 crank to properly reassemble the engine.

I have secured my spare 2AZ and should be shipping it off to ZPI shortly for the build up…………..opps did I say that!

OMG *LOL* yeah they will hold @ 420.. but I would only give them a few runs at very best. Have you seen the rods in person..?? *LOL* They look like toothpics. Sad when 1.6L old school 4ag toyota / yamaha engines have twice the rods that 2az's have. These things are pathetic. I would not trust them at 300crank hp over a short period of time if you hammer on the car.

yea, see the main problem is sure, they are holding 350whp fine, but for how long. I doubt it would last any longer than 40-50k before having to do a major rebuild..cause now you are gonna wanna look into building up the valvetrain and rods as well to hold it a lot better

We are over 300crank hp and have put about 4k miles on the car with racing it EVERY weekend. Runs like a champ. I think when you are approaching 350 WHEEL hp, then you need to invest in some rods and pistons. Which I will do soon.

they look like toothpicks compared to other because they are forged and others are not. Meaning they dont have to be as large in order to hold the same power if not more.

so I talked to a tech @ Carrillo about our rods...
when they were doing the desing and fabrication of their new rods for the tC they or course took it upon themselves to test the strength and durability of our stockers...

In there "expert" opinion, a safe horsepower range for longevity would be maxed out @ about 285-300 hp. 350 was the max that they tested and found structural damage on the rods.
Now the didn't get into the weeds about how they test so take it with a grain of salt. Just some more info

They do now offer rods in both "A- frame and standard H- frame" design. 350hp and 500hp respectively. they run $799 for A frame and $1076 for H frame.

Also, J E pistons just released their 9.0:1 turbo pistons and 11.0:1 NA pistons for $499 plus $100 for the ring set.

just some FYI

Good to know, what should be a better configuration, 11.0 or 11.5 HC pistons? Maybe you have room for more tuning using the 11.0, maybe...

so i'm waiting to see the response to these new items to set up a group buy? would anyone be interested in a group buy on the J E Forged Pistons? It doesn't matter if you want the 11:1 or 9:1.
If I have takers I'll set up a new thread with the group buy

Why would you buy 9:1 when you can get 8:5.1?
