Calling all Supercharger owners!!!!
Your lucky they arent just cutting you a check for the cost of the supercharger kit and not replacing it anymore.
My Supercharger journey:
2006 m/t
First S/C installed by dealer at time of purchase (Arlington Toyota - Jacksonville, FL).
I got the car used from my cousin at 17000 miles. At 42,000 miles, took the car into Toyota dealership here in Brunswick, GA and they noticed some rattling from the S/C. Upon inspection, they found that the dealership in Jacksonville had never done the ECU reflash (module was still sealed in plastic in my glove box). Needless to say, my S/C was toast, my compression was shot and they replaced the S/C and the short block under warranty.
2nd S/C now at 91,000 miles. Shaft bearing failure on pulley end, seal and bearing failure on the blower side. Everything on the car is stock and always has been. In the process of rebuilding S/C. You can see pics here:
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=205069
* Have you had any problems with it? If no, just say no problem.
* If so what kind and how many times have you had this problem?

I know this is an older thread but if it is still active here is my story.
07 TC n/a with 25,xxx when the S/C was put on.
@ roughly 45,xxx belt snapped 250 miles from home due to blown idler puller bearing and towed the car back.
@ roughly 50,xxx idler pulley number 2 blew and made squeaking noises on the pulley side. the belt was running two ribs off center and was wearing the side of the belt out.
@ 52,xxx idler pulley number 3 went bad on me. i can't keep afford to keep replacing that pulley cuz $70 every time it goes bad starts to burn a bigger hole in my wallet.
also just to add every time i do an oil change i notice that there are traces of oil inside of the intake tubing and some oil build up on the intake side of the impeller.
because of all of this, i'm afraid to take this car on long distance trips cuz if it every breaks down on me i'm screwed.
hopefully this help out with the thread.

ALright guys and gals. This should be preety easy...
--We are trying to gather some information about YOur TRD Superchargers. This is what were looking for.
*What year?
*Possibly Miles on it?
* Have you had any problems with it? If no, just say no problem.
* If so what kind and how many times have you had this problem?
-- What were doing: We are trying to gather some Data about the unit. A friend of mine is considering a class-action suit againts Toyota for knowledgeably selling a faulty product. This may benefit you, specially if you have had the hastle of dealing with dealerships trying to change your unit or with scion themselves.
I think its time that we need take action to this problem. If you have any friends that have owned one or are currently running the unit. Please let us know if they have had any issues or not.
We appreciate your responses.

Supercharger has about 35k miles on it. Sounds rough during cold start up but gets better once the engine is warm.
I've had to replace the belt because for some reason it tore up the first one & the oil return line had to be replaced due to leaking.
Currently running it on the stock pulley and the 112 BPV. So far it seems alright and the car gets driven about 50-60 miles a day, four days a week. But I am waiting for the inevitable...

-where did you buy a replacement oil return line at? mine is starting to leak from the S/c of the oil line connection-
I have a 2007 scion tC supercharged.
40000 miles
and i recently replaced my serpentine belt and now my supercharger pulley squeaks.
Im pretty sure the bearing in it is going bad since everywhere i read says Toyota put crappy shafts and bearings in them.
Thanks
Travis

I should of posted this about a year and a half ago... lol. Went through THREE superchargers (all dealer installed, and dealer maintained). I had every single TRD part offered for the car, rims, BBK, clutch, LSD, full suspension, front and rear bars, shift kit - you name it. If it had TRD, it was in my fully built TRD s/c'd car. Never swapped pulleys or anything to void warranty.
Car was purchased BRAND new in 2006 (it was a 07 model) with less than 18 miles on it. Supercharged at 4,000 miles - broke almost INSTANTLY within 200 miles, toyota replaced long block + s/c.
Next s/c lasted less than 10,000 miles (in 4 years). Blew up, seals leaked (even though it went to toyota EVERY other month for upgrades ect.
Next s/c lasted less than 5,000 miles - bearings wiped out, sucked a ton of oil from the motor.
Also to note : car went through 2 cat converters, 1 TRD clutch, 1 axle, and tons of minor things.
I sued toyota and won back the FULL cost of my car, minus mileage depreciation which was around $1600 (not bad to drive a car for almost 7 years lol!) . My car had LESS than 25,000 miles on it (it was not a daily driver, I have 4 vehicles). After that I went and bought a civic SI (ep3) used as a beater, and a 08 civic SI coupe - and supercharged that. Makes OVER 360hp rotrex supercharged, boost by gear and is a 2.0l built motor that revs to 9200rpms. I beat the living CRAP out of my SI's, and they love it. I wanted to buy a FRS as a company/project car - but have read to many issues, and it just doesnt have the ***** to warrant the price.
My two SI's, sleep in the garage with my 2 other Honda attack dogs ( 08 CBR1000rr, heavily modded, and a 2003 RC51 1000r, heavily modded). When I owned my tC (purchased in cash) I ALSO purchased a Yaris the year after (in cash).
Toyota will never, ever, get another dollar from me, unless something along the lines of the supra comes back out again - something that can eat 20PSI for breakfast, and crap out other imports and domestics.

I've been out of the S/C tC game for quite sometime now but from time to time I think about how cool it would be to still have that super charged scion as a beater car when I'm not driving the 5.0. It was a zippy little ride.
Anyways... all is not lost bro. This was very common for the TRD SC's to wear out their pulley side bearings and I felt at the time like this was catastrophic. I cannot begin to tell you how simple it is to repair these superchargers. If i knew then what I know now I may have never gotten rid of the car. Your shaft is most likely fine. Odds are the 2 bearings on the pulley side are not gonna completely lock up if drive fairly normal till its fixed, so you have time. Not sure how mechanically inclined you are but its pretty simple to pull the shaft off without removing the actual supercharger scroll from ur engine. Take the shaft to ur local machine shop and have them press out the old bearings and press in the new. If you lived close to me I'd do it for ya cuz i work in a machine shop at a research center and we do this stuff alllllllll the time.
Hope I could help. There should be a couple of how tos on this forum you could dig up if you get stuck but trust me its a very simple operation.
