sounds like #4 detonated. If you drove a Subaru Id say that was normal. The rings will hold up better than the piston, so figure at minimum a new piston, ring set for all 4, and machine work. My guess is that injector had dirt in it. I can tell you also, that when you run a lot of boost on the tC motor with stock intake manifold... cylinders 1 and 4 need more fuel and a tad less timing. This is also why it is a good choice to run a standalone with that capability(individual cylinder fueling and timing).

Send your injectors out to get flow tested , label them. If #4 injector checks out, it was the tune.

thanks justin for your input. i was def planning on sending my injectors out to get tested. i never knew the thing about timing as far as running stock intake manifold. and im also planning on goin standalone next year if i dont go with the ultimate. maybe i will bring the car back to va for you guys to tune it.

Updates? Is there #4 piston in your oil pan?

But seriously, I'd like to know the problem. I think it may be in the head, but I'm by no means educated on how engines work. Just my (non) educated guess.

if it's the head i would say he floated a valve and bent the ____ out of it.

Well... I did this same thing one on my first honda b16a block back in the day (I know it's not a scion!). I ended up having a burnt valve. The head job was to blame, bad seal it didn't seat right leaked oil made hot spots. Would also misfire read lean and sputter. I pulled the plug and it was also dirty looked oily. I bought a new head went with another machine shop runs great to this day. I sure hope its a valve at the worst and not anything bigger.

I hope I never have to take the head off my scion unless it's for a full build. Not fun!

^^ This is what happened to my cylinder head about a month ago. we couldnt figure out what the hell was wrong with the car. checked everything...narrowed it down to being the head and till we open up the head. bad head job = bent valve, messed up lobe on the cams, misfired, sputtered, etc. heres my post about it... https://www.scionlife.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=205873

I bought a head from a guy on here to get Dezod PnP it, but never received it. Bought another head from another guy and hopefully this time Im not getting scammed. Bad things always happens to me.

im gonna send the injectors to some place that thendawg referred me to. so are you guys saying that i may only need to get 1 piston and rings for all 4 of them depending on how everything looks?

might as well replace them all plus man i wouldn't plan on it being just a messed up piston you need to drop the pan if there is no debris in the pan it's going to more then likely be your valves. you could also pull your manifold off really quick to check the exhaust valves.

also you could just replace one set of rings 1 piston and 1 rod but you would have 1 piston that is larger because the current size piston you have wont sit properly in that cylinder after you get it machined back to round.
