Don't you just hook up to the fic with a USB cable? Been awhile since I screwed with one.

Sorry I havent had a chance to chime in. Unfortunately Ive been working alot lately. I made a rough street tune on the car, but at the time it still had the breakup issue around 5.5-6k so I didnt get to spend a ton of time on it. Heres a screen cap of the last ignition map, I believe total timing was somewhere around 14* advance at redline on 21 psi. It definitely needed more timing, but I advised him to find a good tuner to dial it in on the dyno. Also fueling was really conservative (esp for low comp) being around 11.2-11.6:1 at WOT

14 degrees at 21 PSI sounds quite aggressive for timing regardless of AFR.

WOT, stock at 8 PSI on a 57 trim the stock ECU commands 18-22* of advance. Adding another 13 PSI and only dropping 4-8* sounds steep. Was there an EGT gauge hooked up?

Unfortunately no egt connected - remmber this is on 8.5:1 comp, not stock bottom end. Most of the other guys Im familiar with running low comp built bottom end run 15+ deg advance near redline on 20+psi

Although that is on 93 octane, however prob not much difference between that and 91 (all we have here in OK)

Don't forget it's contingent upon turbo efficiency, fuel used, turbo and intercooler efficiency.... among other things.

That brings back a memory I forgot until now.... I remember suggesting a more efficient intercooler before considering upping the boost. It got to a point where we were turning up the boost yet the car wasn't making any more power. At 18psi the intercooler got hot enough to where It nearly burned my hand... on the outlet end ( with 22mph headwind). The air intake temperature could have definately been a contributor to his detonation. I believe he was using an intercooler from the dezod s1 kit. If he had WMI Id say no biggy, I ran 17psi with no intercooler at all before seeing 340 degree IAT's (before nozzle).

justin i understand your concern about the intercooler being an issue because of it heat soaking on the dyno but i can tell you ive driven my car across country during the summer from delaware to virginia with no heat soak issues. and i went to the track one night and made a few pulls i wanna say it was high 90 at night time. did a few pulls on the street with a cammed gto and some modified mustang and when i got done the intercooler was cool to the touch. the night that my car messed up it was maybe 75 degrees outside and i wasnt running the hell out of the car so i do not see that being an issue in this scenario. thendawg and 1slowtc are both running this ic and are having no issues what so ever with heat soaking.

Larger power goals demand more aggressive components. Nothing new or different there.

Having just tuned an AEM EMS yesterday on a stock motor tC at 10 PSI with a custom ATP based setup and a ZPI/ebay intercooler, the car was only able to get about 10-11* of advance at WOT because of the setup. The knock sensors where showing knock at at AFR of 11.7-11.9:1 and about 14*. Once the timing was dropped to 10-11* and AFRs where dropped to 11.3-11.5:1, knock subsided. We had datalogged plenty of parameters including EGTS which registered at a peak of 1350*F. If any one is interested in seeing a datalog, I will post screen shots from AEM LOG.
