Default does the timing chain need to be different?

i bored my motor out and other work done too. when i picked up my motor, he showed me that everything was lined up with the timing chain, but i installed the motor last night and would not crank. should the timing be set to different specs?

Everyone that has had this issue says claimed to have installed the chain right but come to find out they didnt. Get a toyota service manual and check your guys works. I bet its off.

Everyone's using the wrong alignment marker on the exhaust cam... Ive seen like 4 machine shops do this that assembled 2az's. The exhaust cam has 3 markers on the gear, two dots, one with I, one with E, than a third hash with no letter - it needs to be aligned to the hash, not the other 2 - everyone seems to use the E which will cause it to be like 30-40* off and no fire. lucky we dont have an interference motor or the consequences could be MUCH worse. Also make sure the intake VVTI gear was locked when installed - i believe its the full retard position. When you rotate the crank the lobes on E and I cams should be almost 180* off from ea other. Of course also make sure to check timing by setting crank to 0* than see if the cams are at the alignment markers.

thank so very much, that information just saved me so much time. i called the shop and asked where he timed it on the exhaust and for sure, he marked it on the E. reasons like these is why i love my car, to get information about it is as easy as a post!
