not sure if the FIPG is red, but it came in the install kit. U bet I'm using it, that sucker cost $27. As far as the speedo goes, there shouldn't be a problem. It doesn't shim the bearing or read speed. The sensor hole is plugged, probably only used for the camry.

Yup i was gonna say this but i thought they had it covered! once the two cases are together the diff should be snug! Ive seen them once installed need a different shim!

yea if it is too tight you will have excessive drivetrain loss and probably fry the bearings in a week! if it is loose my guess is excessive gear noise. I think 9-14 inch pounds of resistance is correct for new bearings. I use a analog 1/4" torque wrench, 1/4 to 3/8" adaptor and deep socket with rubber tube shoved over it... then shove that into diff spline. This is with 2 case haves together without gear assemblies and tight.

I guess it's kinda hard for the DIY'er because it's not like you are gonna order every shim from Toyota because you never know which one you will need. I think it's around $150 for all of them.

yeah we talked it over, i suppose we will take measurements from the stocker and compair to the new. then put both halves togather and see if there is anyplay. thats about the best i can think of to do, all my tq wrenches are clickers (one a cheap digital). should work huh?

do the shims look like metal rings that go behind the races?

yea it's the one behind the outer race, not the plastic one (on opposite half of the case). Ive done enough lsd's now to know how the diff resistence should feel with just my fingers. With the 2 halfs tightened togetether and diff in place, you should be able to spin diff by sticking you fingers in the spline and spinning.... but it should be tight enough to where id doesnt spin immediately, it amost has to "crack loose" initially then spin. Should be done with only the force of fingers.

Hey man.. GREAT advise.. Could not of explained it better if i had tried! I seen a local here who kept getting odd noise's from the trd lsd.. come to find out they threw the lsd in without even checking the shims! it had about 5mm of vertical play! Luckly my friend works at dealer.. brought it there and got it back to working condition in no time.. Ive always done the hand method myself. i usually make it so its not easy to spin with fingers but not loose.. I figure once theres oil and heat things should be great!

We all know how hot the e350 gets!

wasn't able to do much today Chris, the tranny is done though. The LSD play was spot on, only thing was the input shaft. When we took off that second snap ring under the synchros, it made the big bearing under it to shift a little. It wasn't even supposed to be pulled, it made it kinda hard to put the snap ring back into place. The first couple of times I wasn't even able to rotate the shaft, with the gear fully in. Ended up pulling the synchro assembly gear like 6 times :-(, it was frustrating.
Other than that I got it to work after reseting the big bearing to it's original position. I wasn't able to do much cuz the wifey made me go to a Super Bowl party soo, I hope to finish up tomorrow. Still got to do some valve cover sanding and paint tonight and attach the tranny to the engine and leave it ready for tomorrow.
BTW pulling the harness idea, awesome! It was so easy, even though it didn't look like it.

Easy!
