I'm taking my manifold to get WPC treated today, but I want it polished gold similar to Olahalo's mani. Anyone have any recommendations on where to get it done? I also live in Southern California, so a local shop would be appreciated too if possible!

 

well the gold is the tint left from when it was all golden crusty looking he just polished it and well it came out gold

im pretty sure u star with like a 120 grit and then move you way down to a polishing grit like 1200

 

I don't want to do it myself lol. I polished my block before and it was pretty simply, but I love the finish of his mani.

the original color was silver.. those are ceramic coated manifold, as you use it they turn gold as you polish it again it turns like that... if you want gold you need to have it coated first..

 

Are you sure Ace? I thought olahalo's manifold was just polished, not coated. I thought it turned that color after the heat got to it? I am polishing my ptuning right now, want me to polish yours??

 

No way is that manifold ceramic coated, it raw for sure

Silver ceramic coating does not turn gold after usage, the shine just dulls out, it does not change color.

There are a few shops that will do it around here but your looking at spending easy $125 and thats on the cheap side

 

From what I remember Todd telling me, that manifold is raw. Just some hardcore polishing is all that is on that manifold.

Im almost pretty damn sure its coated.. it maybe not ceramic but im sure its not raw as as I remember.. now way you could polish off the welds if it was raw. I know its coated coz todd offered me that kind of polish (silver) that would turn to gold after sometime you use it as it sees more exposure to heat. I think java has the same thing and that sponsored guy from AZ

 

The only coating to withstand the exhaust temps is ceramic coating, and there is no way to polish it to that kind of shine.

Here is my manifold after just about 45 minutes of polishing. It is raw and after a few hours of running it turned gold-ish. Compare the manifold to the wastegate dump tube. The Dump tube Stayed silver polish, while the manifold turned gold due to the heat



Here is a set of headers that a guy on my powder coating forum did in silver ceramic coat. This is after 2 hours of polishing



The only ceramic coating I have seen a super shine on is Jet-Hot coating, and even that dulls out after its exposed to heat.

I was going to suggest Jet-Hot. They have some semi-gloss finishes they offer.

 

I will post pics of my manifold when its done. hand polish will yield the best results, but will take forever!
