Neither of the Ptuning exhausts need a shop to install. Just some hand tools, elbow grease, and maybe a little penetrating lubricant. Also, jack stands, ramps, or a lift.

Just unbolt the stock (or current) exhaust and bolt the Ptuning one on.

I know, just didn't want to look like the stereo-typical SL jerk, lol. Besides, someone else could have the same questions.

You are wrong about that. A catback exhaust doesnt require any cutting at all. It replaces the whole midpipe and the axle back. It is the same thing as s-pipe back. Someone just decided to get the names confused. It would be dumb to make any exhaust that required you to cut your stock exhaust and weld on another piece.

actually, the magnaflow "catback" does require you to cut the stock exhaust just after the cat and couple it onto the rest of the piping.

i dunno if its changed since but thats how we had to install it last year on this one guys tC.

Well that has got to be the worst exhaust ever. Who would want to hassle with that? I know I wouldnt

I went through the MOST confusing 46 minutes of my life so far yesterday.

A REAL catback is supposed to be everything AFTER the cat which means you cut everything after that cat, and clamp or weld on the new system. For a tC, most companies say "catback" but it's really a Spipe back.

yes i thought that was an annoying way to design it,
i always just choose to think that catback is = everything from the cat and back

Magnaflow's cat-back exhaust for the Scion tC. You must make a cut ~3.5" to the rear of the catalytic converter, then you can install this cat-back. Why didn't they make a full exhaust starting from the s-pipe all the way back? Because it is illegal to remove a fully functional catalytic converter from a street car (if a shop is caught removing one, they can be fined up to $25,000). It's mainly for liability and to market a street legal exhaust system.

If you go to most muffler shops and ask for a cat-back exhaust, they will not touch the catalytic converter, but they will replace everything else.

Dezod and Ptuning both sell their own exhaust systems. They both call their setups s-pipe back exhausts. If you look at what their kits come with, it comes with a midpipe that bolts up to the s-pipe (note how it does not come with a replacement s-pipe). It's marketed as a race/track use exhaust system.

Ptuning also has a header-back exhaust system. It comes with an s-pipe, mid-pipe, and rear section. Again, race/track use system.

So, simple comprehension skills would say that a cat-back exhaust replaces everything behind the catalytic converter (catalytic converter is not removed).
A header-back exhaust would replace everything after the header (full exhaust would include a header/turbo manifold).
An s-pipe back exhaust system would replace everything after the s-pipe (does not replace header or s-pipe).

UPDATE: We just received confirmation from our manufacturer, and unfortunately the freight is delayed just a bit longer.

Due to availability of raw material to complete our batch of exhausts, the freight will not be leaving CA until Wednesday 02/13/2008. Transit time from CA to VA is another 4-5 working days. Therefore to be safe, we are aiming to have the exhausts available to ship or pick-up by 02/21/2008.

We apologize for any inconvenience as the result of this production delay. Please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns.

If I was keeping my car this set-up sounds sweet, nice gains. I always wondered if a 3" would see gains over a 2.5"

I'm getting a MS3, due to arrive end of this month. I'm getting the first Crystal White Pearl Speed3 to hit SoCal.

We stand by everything we do. And as you all know there's always two sides to a story. We will reply shortly to draxcaliber's post and our customers can make the call. We've done numerous LSD installs for the tc since none of the techs from the local scion dealership in NoVA want to take on the job--most of them don't even know what an LSD is.

There's currently 6 scion tc in our shop at the moment. There here because our customers trust us to do the work. Some of these tCs are hear because of botch installs from other shops. You will find a wealth of information on the internet but you have to learn how to filter out the good from the BS.

I just finished reading that LONG post from drax and that really does suck in his case that it happened to him like that.

But one thing I do know is that every company has their little F ups. No company is perfect and I highly doubt that one incident would affect their exhaust. If your worried about the exhaust, just install it yourself so that way they cant mess your car up which i doubt they would do anyways especially with an exhaust.

true true. From what it sounds like and if they are a reputable company which it looks like they are, Im sure they would. Dont quote me on it though. Well I sure hope they stand by their product as I ordered the new ptuning exhaust from them. haha
