Default s/c seal starting to go bad.:(

took my shaft off the s/c today and noticed some oil in it. I took it off to grease the bearings. IT was not alot about half a tbs spoon or so. but enough to notice thats its not saposed to be there. I wonder how long i can go till i have to replace the seal. I don't think the dealer ship will waranty it cause of all the mods. bummer. i guess i'll have to replace the seal myself. I hope i can make it through the summer till i put it up for winter befor it gets really bad and sucks up all my engine oil.

I forgot that part # seal someone said was better. anyone can tell me where to get a good one let me know. thanks

I'm not sure you can replace that yourself or not (someone will correct me, I'm sure)... you may have to send it out.

But you're right on the warranty. Unless your dealer is REALLY, REALLY cool.

http://www.marcorubber.com/
I belive they sell the seal it is a Viton 25-40-7 seal

The Bearings are 2 skf Ball bearings 6205/c31
The Nachi speed rated bearings are nac-6003 speed rated up to 65,000 rpm I belive
I talked to a rep from Nachi and he told me that part number was vortech specific
so the alternate bearing number he ___ me was 7003 CYDUP4GL which I priced out for around 187.50 for the pair. Wow probably more info than you needed

It can be rebuilt, most of the problems I see are the rubber seals going and when the dealers see that they say you have to replace the whole unit because they wonn't take it apart. for a cheap little rubber seal.

i think i'll just go to the web site and buy a new seal. my bearings are not bad, i'v already took them apart and greased them cause they were dry. that can easealy done. witched helped it out alot. I still havent decided to take it to the dealer and have them look at it. If i do i'll have to put it back to stock and i'm really thrilled about doing that. I could replace the sceal in a day and be done with it. thank for the info.

replaced my seal my-self the other day. less than four dollar for the seal and 1.25 hours of time and it was done. by only taking of the shaft side of the s/c and the ten 6mm allen bolts on the s/c itself and the casing split in half. the seal itself is press fited in so it needs to be lightly pounded out with a swrew-driver or a socket that is the same diamiter. then put back in the same way with a socket. I think i used a 22mm axel socket witch believe it not was the same size as the s/c housing and then tapering down the the same size as the seal. Anyway it worked out perfect. No problems been over 1000 miles. The only other thing i wall have to do is take it back apart and replace the key on the shaft that conects to the s/c main gear. it has alot of wear and is the cause of most of the raddaling that you hear witch gets louder over time.

you can get the key at any hardware store and just cut to the length you need. I would go with stainless steel or the hardest metal you can find. The key in the s/c is only about 3/4 if a inch long and both shafts are milled for a ket to be as long as 1.5 inches, so more key would be better holding power and less wear. This s/c is i think a original one purched new in 06. surpprisingly my brakets are still holding up.
