i hope that if this is something your are going to try to sell that you have a very good lawyer on retainer. This idea has been patented and has been sucessfully defended on more than one occasion. If you dont beleive me look here.

and by the way any of you all who are doubting the function of a rearmount turbo system are just giving your opinion. it all starts with th right turbo. I was a dealer for STS and have sold and installed many of these kits and th work extremely well.

1. How they were able to patent the location is beyond me. 2. How do you know they're not part of the "Licensing program"? 3. Florida Puddle... nough said.

you would be able to sell a kit like this but you ahve to contact STS get the rights from them and then you still have to buy their DIY kit with includes the turbo, oil pump, and some oter misc things and it is not cheap.

I am with you on how they can get a patent on a location. That is like me getting a patent on a front wheel drive car. i think the pantent expires in 2 or 3 years and i am not sure if it is a renewable patent.

But none the less if this is something you are going to persue i wish the best of luck.

that link doesn't demonstrate anything. Just because you are awarded a patent doesn't automatically mean it is the end all be all. Since you are/were a dealer you probably have access to these cases you speak of. could you post a case number/ excerpt or something?

i'm curious as to what defenses were presented and soundly defeated, from a general standpoint: first sale, novelty, public dedication rule, DOE, could have been presented, and the list goes on.

i dont think it's dead... from what stripper has said so far, it is still a prototype, so I assume info is going to -by definition - be scarce until they are ready to release the kit... I am just thankful theyve shared what they have so far. that said, i hate the suspense lol

From the looks of the pics of the STS "rearmount", the turbo is in the middle of the car, right under the U-Joint. From the pics of the Stripper kit, the turbo is in place of the muffler, which is only inches away from the bumper. How the hell would STS be able to control all turboes installed on vehicles from the transmission to the back of the car...oh yeah, they can't.

oh, but wait..... they did. i was just stating what i know and that they need to be careful. if you would read the patent it has to do with more than turbo location.

those are only the patents, not the legal reasoning and opinion as to why the alleged infringer's argument didn't hold. Was there even a case, or did the infringer simply back off from a simple cease and desist order?

i think that pattent is no good unless they would speciffically say that a rear mount turbo on a "tc" is their idea, strippers kit is one off for the tC, not camaros and such like STS, so i think no worries here

lol, that argument won't hold. All they have to say is "vehicle" or some other vague but still limiting term ("means of transport" "means of transport on a surface" "a means of transports utilizing a plurality of wheels", etc.) and that would cover from chargers to pintos to caddys.

In any event, Stripper does not seem to be worried about it, so why whould we? They must know something we don't know.

Guy's the car is up and running / driving around. We should be putting a good tune on it some time in the next week. As of right now it just has a safe, base tune. I will fill you in once we get the tune squared away and get her on the dyno.
