Get a PTuning turbo kit. You'll be much happier.

PRO: CARB Legal

Seeing as you also live in California, I would take this into consideration when choosing between s/c and turbo. If it wasn't for this I would have went turbo for the cons given by others.

Leave California. Or get your car registered in AZ and go turbo.

pro- easier than getting a turbo with a good amount of power

con- Not as much power as a turbo for that price unless you find someone selling for extra cheap. Also they don't sell it anymore due to PROBLEMS with the s/c. bad shaft that breaks and consistently breaks with everyone who buys one aka why they don't sell the trd s/c anymore.

much cheaper than a turbo, and you can pick it up cheap and get my upgrade for it.

Much less power than a turbo, but no need to worry about getting tune and such. They do have problems, I've had problems with mine. Since my upgraded parts have been put in I haven't had a problem, almost a year now with 9.5psi pulley.

My bro just went turbo, and he has been having his share of problems also, so you can't say turbo's are A ok.

In the end I would say get s/c if your not looking for big power, just a little more umph. It all depends on what your end goals are. The s/c gives power very similar to stock, it won't kick in like a turbo.

The turbo gives you a lot more power, but its more complicated and more expensive. In the end I don't think any option besides being stock is worry free.

Well said gompka.
Just wanted to add that since you have an 08 you shouldn't have to worry about reliability with the supercharger. The 07-09 superchargers hold up MUCH better than the original 05-06's. I was lucky and received a Vortech redesigned version of the 05-06 through warranty and I love it.

I also gotta say that the fidanza flywheel is gods gift to supercharged tc's (and turbos too). With the lighter rotational mass on the engine which transfers also to the pulleys I felt what seemed like a definite increase in tourque.

at this point, there are no advantages to getting a trd supercharger for the tc.

1. the 08 kit still costs too much, was discontinued, and you'd be hard up to find one left on a stock shelf somewhere.

2. while the supercharger doesn't provide a huge boost in power, the main advantage about it was it is carb legal, and it would join your powertrain warranty. but since you can only find a used one, that no longer applies.

3. the supercharger isn't as bad as everybody says. from my personal experience, the supercharger has behaved like a champ. nearly all the problems with the supercharger were bad installations by incompetent mechanics or techs or noobs.

also, the supercharger doesn't whine. it makes a chirping sound at idle, and you can hear whoosh of air, but that is it.

pros- the sound, 60hp gain, less work then turbo(but that doesnt matter if you get a shop to install it)
cons- 60hp gain, 2k new around 1300 used(you can get a cheap turbo kit for that), really unreliable(the sc that is)

you can get a turbo kit carb legal....dezod has one

The people who keep saying "less work than a turbo" have Never been turboed. There is NO MORE maintenance required when boosted on a turbo than there is a S/C'er. That is a MYTH....end of story. You boost on a turbo and put it on 10lbs and leave it there....you only have to change your oil and that be the jist of it. When you start to want to go faster than you make a tremendous amount of power OVER what a S/C'er ever makes. More power = More than likely other weaker components to break (clutches, gears/synchros, etc...). But again, there is no more maintenance required.

And the TRD charger does not WHINE like you hear out of a Roots Type S/C'er found on a Cobra, Cobalt SS, etc... So, the sound is not a Whine in that since.

x2.... I haven't had any major issues with my turbo kit beside a bad tune.... got it re-tune and now it's running like a champ.... and I thought the s/c only give you 40hp..... not 60hp???

For the 05-06 MANUAL tC you are looking to dyno around 135-140whp stock. With S/C'er 185-190whp.

For the 07+ MANUAL tC you are looking to dyno around 145-150whp stock. With S/C'er 190-210whp.

For an AUTO.....The S/C'er is a complete WASTE of money and effort. Auto dynos around 125whp stock and with S/C'er you are looking to make 140-150whp. What does that mean? That means that a Manual tC that has maybe a few bolt-ons will be JUST as Fast if not FASTER than an Auto tC with a standard TRD S/C'er on it. Congrats you just spent $3k+ dollars to go as fast as a bolt-on 5spd tC. If I had to put money on who would win in a race, you would be a fool not to bet on the 5spd even if it was a stock 5spd.
