Default Weird smog results with and w/o s/c

I just thought this might be interesting to some of you on here as much as i find it interesting...

Long story short, I have a 2005 tc, trying to get it to smog. First results, i failed, not by much, with the supercharger installed, 9.5 pulley, everything else stock, but an old (100,000 miles) catalytic converter which im sure quite a bit of burnt oil has passed through... Results:

So, in order to get it to smog, i took the s/c off and *planned* on using a relatively new xB header/cat i had laying around (long story), but it wouldnt fit. The angle of the exit is different. So, i pulled the s/c off, swapped injectors, spark plugs, ecu, oil pan, etc. to return it to stock. But i had to re-use the old tc cat. Went in again for smog and failed MISERABLY... Results:

I just find it odd that i failed worse w/o the s/c.. lol any ideas/comments? I am now looking for a new tc cat which im sure will make it pass.. but its weird i thought the s/c made the exhaust more dirty than stock.. but not in this situation.

Running the reflashed ECU I assume. Obviously, its not optimized for running without the SC unit man. From your post, you changed everything else off, but you did not mention if you swapped out a stock ECU when you went for smog test #2.

Just to ask, do they do exemptions there? In Maryland (last place I failed a smog with my porsche back in the day) if you showed more than $500 in parts/labor, you got a pass. Which, was about the cost of lug nuts on that damn car lol.

I put a stock ECU in it for the second run. Which is why i am so baffled...

They actually test the exhaust coming out of the pipe? Here in Chicago they only do an OBD2 test, don't hook anything up to the pipe. So as long as your oem computer is giving the ok you pass. I passed with no cats on the car and an antifouler lol.

the supercharger is making the combustion cycle more efficient causing it to burn off more fuel. where as your stock car has an unefficient combustion cycle so more fuel is getting out. if you need to borrow an exhaust manifold LMK you can borrow mine if you are in the SoCal area.

yeah i don't think they do that exemption thing here in cali.. if you don't pass you don't pass lol your SOL.. and yeah i thought about the S/C making the fuel burn more efficiently i just didnt know it was that big of a difference... and yeah they hang what looks like an o2 sensor off the tailpipe and measure what is leaving the exhaust... California sucks.

And YES it would be awesome if i could borrow your stock one or if u have an extra? I will buy it! But im in central california, but i can make the drive to LA, it will be cheaper than buying a new one.. theyre going for $300+ new..
