dooable - yes
worth it - your opinon (sound quality is okay for subs, not made to enhance door speakers)
if you can afford a new hu - go for it, but go for quality then, you might as well get the best bang for your buck
to hookup a amp to an hu w/o rca outputs, you'll need 1 of two things
either a line level converter (available at walmart or any stereo shop) - it taps off the regular speakers (1 pair) to make 1 pair of rca level outputs - - so so quality sound
or get an amp that accepts high level inputs - much more stable, usually no adjusment neccesary and the sound quality is better than the above method
good luck!

You will most likely need what crayonBOX said a level line conveter or a High/Low End Converter to do this.. Can be done I did it to my factory H/U in my celica but honestly I think you should go with an upgraded H/U you'll get better sound quality..
