Default Aux function w/ aftermarket HU

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone has been ale to keep your center console AUX port functional with a aftermarkey HU? I thought I read something about this once before, but was unable to find it again. I know that my HU (sony xplod cdx-m850mp) has an Aux port in the back of it, but was sure how they would fit together or if it was possible to splice it all together. If there is anyone out there that may have successfully done this or knows about how it may work I would appriciate it....

I would think it would be as simple as locating the positive and negative of the AUX jack in the console and following the wires. I am probably going to try it this weekend as I plan on doing some work on my interior. If i can make it work I will take some pics along the way to help you out.

Awesome, it would be great if it worked out fairly easy. Hopefully it will and you will have no probs and can get some pics up, that would help out a ton. If there is anyone else out there that has tried this or knows about how it all works, please post...

i'll give you the directions on how to connect it - it'll require some soldering tho - but if you're handy with a multimeter, soldering iron or really good with squeeze crimps, it can be done

pm me tho.. im lazy rite now - theyre pretty easy to do

would it be spliced directly into the wiring harness or would I use the actual AUX port thru my aftermarket HU?

ok, so i havent managed to actual do this yet, but when i had my center console apart this weekend i did some looking.... If you can idenitify which wires are the + and - of the Aux plug in the compartment you should be able to T-tap those wires and run them to the AUX inputs on your aftermarket stereo. That will be what I do. Anyone know which wires those would be??? Wiring diagram anyone??

^exactly

This is what the stock harness wiring looks like, the white plug goes behind the stock HU and the grey plug connects into the AUX connector. what you want to do is take a audio to rca cable
one end like this

and one end like this

plug the 2.5mm stereo jack into the aux plug w/the grey connector connected, then meter the wires with a multi-meter, or even a led continuity tester and diagram what wire is ending where on the white plug,

then, you'll end up cutting off the 2.5mm jack end off the rca cable (might as well keep the longest length you can on the rca side for ease of install)

and then solder those wires to the ones now where the white hu harness plug were. there will be stray wires, tape em off and leave em, they are there to let the hu know there is a plug present, but it only applies to the stock hu.

then the rca plugs plug into your hu's AUX or line in rca plugs.

viola! your'done.
