Installing a new HU is very easy.

You will need to attach the wiring harness to the wire leads from the new head unit. Just head down to walmart and pick up a box of crimps and a crimping tool. The 18awg crimps work fine (red ones). Just sit down at the dinning room table, strip the ends from the wires on one end, crimp it down and then insert the corresponding wire from the other side and crimp it down.

The wires are color coded, so it's kind of hard to mix it up, unless you don't pay attention to which wires are the negative (typically, have a stripe running down the wire). Then mount the HU in the dash kit.

After you do that, follow Nick's guide for taking off the dash (Crutchfield's instructs have a brief step-by-step as well).

The longest part of the install for me was crimping everything up and assembling the dash kit. Actually taking the dash off, replacing the stock HU with the new one/dash kit and reinstalling the dash took like 5-10 minutes.

Yoy guys are all great with the tips. One of the great things I always tell my buds about owning a Scion is the community you join by having one.

My HU is arriving tomorrow, and I did also order the crimping set from Crutchfield. Taking apart the dash is no problem, as I already did it once before for the short shifter install. You're right, taking it apart and putting it together only takes a few minutes. I'm wondering if I should run the iPod cable to the glovebox or to the center console storage unit. I'll probably have to drill a hole in the center console if I wanted to put it there, right? That would be no biggie though.
