Lol, I must have answered this questions a couple times. The factory unit can't communicate with an aftermarket system. If you can somehow put the aftermarket alarm remote components into the factory key, then you might be able to get it to work.
I don't get it?

Do you mean if you have the Scion Security, you can't use this?
you can use any aftermarket system, but if you want your factory key with built-in alarm buttons to operate the aftermarket alarm, that will be very tricky.

Oh, I gotcha. I'm not getting the Scion Security System tho. It's like $450 when the Viper 791xv is only less than $200...

^^^ okay, thats the best alarm. I don't know who is installing the alarm, but you will need this part number. 556UW It is a bypass module for the remote start to disable your factory system. I also recommend the backup battery. Window & sunroof modules and piezo siren are nice too.

I have a Viper 791xv in my car and I love it. I also have dual piezo sirens right in my dash. I would not want to be in the car when someone breaks in.

Here are some tips:

-Get an alarm with a pager and starter kill. Even if you can catch the crook yourself, you can at least call the police within 5 minutes of the burglary.

-Get a GPS tracking unit. This one ties in to the first one because not only will you be able to inform the police your ride is stolen, moments after it happens, but the police will have a lot easier time locating it.

-Get a fuel cut off switch, and have a shop that hires ex-car thieves install it. They'll know the best place to hide it. With this thing you'll have to turn it on/off manually. Also, don't be telling your "friends" where it's location is.

-Get wheel lock that can't be removed by cutting into the steering wheel. and every time you park turn your wheels one full turn before putting the lock on. So even if the thief comes with a tow truck, it will be very hard form him/her to tow it away. Oh and for this to work, ALWAYS USE YOUR PARKING BRAKE.

-Get a pedal lock. Steering wheel lock + alarm + pedal lock = thief, "Hey that BMW over there looks nice."

-Get a hood lock.

-Get a gas cap with a lock, and never fill your tank all the way. This means more trips to the gas station, but at least if your car is stolen the thief will not go very far. Plus not filling up your gas tank all the way means less weight, which means more performance... sort of.

-Stupid, but works. Tie a good strong chain between your front and rear wheels. On the front wheel make sure the chain is tied to the part closest to the rear, and on the rear wheel make sure the chain is tied closest to the front. The just secure the whole thing with some heavy ___ padlocks. Preferably the chain should be wrapped in some sort of plastic sleeve to protect your wheels from chipping.

Ok the last one was silly, but it only helps to make my point. While you can't stop thieves from taking your car if they really want it, you can make it extremely hard. Almost always, if it's too hard thieves will just move onto something else. So the best protection is simply to stack security measures on top of each other. Your paranoia and imagination are the only limits.

BTW whenever possible, always park next to car that's more expensive than yours.

I think Ravelco is probably the best security system on the market.
