Default Fugly Shift Boot Collar

Sooo I just ordered a new shift **** and of course its smaller than the stocker so there is a gap between the **** and the boot. I don't mind the gap, but the shift boot collar is killing me. Anyone come up with any cheap ways make this look less fugly? Ive heard of some people flipping the collar upside down but I cant seem to figure out how without breaking something.

Eventually I will just buy a short shifter, but I'm broke so I'm looking for a quick solution.

I suggest doing the same as in this link https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=38358
I wrapped a rubber band on the stock shift lever about a couple inches below the threaded area to keep the boot snug against the shift ****.

10th post down in this link shows finished product https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=148645
