Default Getting Sirius...Circuit city?

I was going to buy the tuner and the kit from sparks toyota but after tax and installation it will be over $350! For that kind of money I'd rather have an aftermarket radio and tuner. So i went to circuitcity.com and any radio that is satellite ready is not made for the scion tc, is this right? I know plenty of people on here have aftermarket radios so I know this must not be right.

I want to get this radio http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Pione...oductDetail.do
but it says it wont fit.

it will fit, you just need a kit that allows you to put a single din radio into a double din opening.

but just a suggestion, dont buy a stereo receiver because you want satellite radio. buy a satellite receiver so then your not limited to service in just your vehicle. most satellite receivers have an fm transmitter built in so you dont even need to wire it to a radio for it to work. im rocking one of these just using the factory stereo.

I have a pNp in my car right now and it SUCKS. The sound quality is worse than FM. I defintely want to get a tuner and receiver.

Circuit city should have the din that I need right?

They had it for mine, but they seriously screwed up the install and ended up buying me two dashes. I will never go to them again for car audio. And +1 for the integrated system. FM modulation kills the great SQ that satellite radio provides.

i dunno why you have sound issues, mine sounds just as good as a cd.

circuit city should have everything you need for the install.

99-8209 dash kit with pocket iso mount, 80-1761 car harness, pr01-80 pioneer harness. install ing into the dash and still being able to use the cover would require drilling 4 holes on the iso brackets to move the radio back, not hard to do.

i work at circuit city if you can't tell.

BTW, crutchfield doesn't guarantee the install, we do.

Circuit City = BS. Go to Crutchfield.com and get your gear there. It's a simple install and should only take an hour at the most. TRUST ME. I did it with my Alpine HU and SIRIUS S50 car kit. The only pain in installing the satellite antenna. Here's my current set up:

1. Alpine CDA-9856 HU. $199.99
2. Alpine KCE-422i iPod cable to connect to iPod and HU. $29.99
3. Alpine KCA-121B Auxiliary Input Adapter to connect SIRIUS S50 to HU. $14.99

Granted if you go to Crutchfield, you can't get your gear right away but you can get 3 day shipping. (Plus, they'll send you the necessary harness and din for FREE!) The only thing(s) you really need are RCA-to-Y cables which I had lying around the house and the SIRIUS S50 (or other sat. system) Car Kit. Sound is truly amazing! 100x better than FM Modulation! Another thing; the Alpine KCA-121B Auxiliary Input Adapter just hooks up the S50 to the HU. It doesn't show track, title, or artist info. But that's what the S50 (or other capable sat. system with a screen) is for, right?

Being that you're looking at a Pioneer HU, your prices will be slightly higher. Worst case, you can use Crutchfield as a reference as to what HUs will work and which ones won't. I just thought I would share with you some insight on your situatuion as I was in the same boat about a year ago. If you have anymore ?s, shoot me a PM.

^thanks but I want a satellite ready HU.

After checking out crutchfield I am thinking about getting this one http://www.crutchfield.com/S-y5o3H2v...0&I=113KDCX590 . I installed my PnP satellite radion so this one shouldn't be too hard. I like that they come with the din and harness already too.

If you still have to run a seperate antenna to the outside of the car, a lot of the convenience is lost in my opinion. Installing a box is a pain, but I wouldn't let it bias your HU choice. A HU is a lot of money to buy into one feature, and be unhappy with the rest.

The intenna is easy to run, I don't have to find a place and drill the tuner in. Plus, its cheaper to have the tuner integrated and I like the way the HU looks and the reviews were optimistic.

Already ordered, $249.99 total out the door with the wire harness and din with instructions.

Put that in AFTER I already posted. It's all good.

How can Crutchfield guarantee an install that you DIY? I don't think anybody can do that. Instead, Crutchfield has probably the MOST TOP NOTCH tech support available online! They will help you until you get it right. And if the product isn't what I thought it would be, I can send it back no questions asked. I don't have to justfiy my return to some inept 'manager' who hides in the back. (Oh yeah, I've had that happen to me.) Your CC store may not be this bad but there are stores like this.

I've heard and seen so many install horror stories from Best Buy and Circuit City that I just strongly suggested he DIY. The install prices are a total joke and their install times are insane. (4 hours to install a HU that only takes average-joe-me less than an hour. I have more important things to do than wait 4 hours for an install.) I'm definitely not car-savy but I installed mine with relative ease.

chazm; Congrats on your Kenwood purchase. Keep us posted on if it works out for you.

yeah i support hyghgynx on this.. Best Buy and Circuit City aren't that good at all, no matter who defends them.

Crutchfield is the place I've been buying all my equipment since the 90's. They always stand behind everything they sell. Plus they'll walk you through ANYTHING. I think they really do enjoy their jobs helping people!

Glad to see you ordered from Crutchfield! If you take your time and be careful, once you see how easy it is. You WILL be kicking yourself for not thinking of doing it yourself in the first place! Let us know how it goes.. should be pretty easy for ya!

If you're serious about Sirius, you won't let Worst buy or Crappy City touch your car

I'm sure that was really original

no but really, they screw up a lot and take too many shortcuts...

Well i know they are not that great (well most of them) because my roomate used to work for them as a installer and he doesn't know much more than me. I have installed HU's before and subs ( not badass or anything) but he is just a TAD above me in skill level and he did fine at Circuit city.
