why dont you hide your amps? To me that is the absolute worst, seing amps mounted on the back seats. You do know those amps can probally fit INSIDE your rear quarter panels right? (maybe not that huge kicker, but I put my JBL BP600.1 and a JBL GTO75.4 inside mine along with a 2.0 farad cap so there IS room inside..that kicker amp doesnt look that much bigger (maybe 1.5-2")

Also what is securing your box? I mean if you take a turn at 60, what prevents it from flying all over the place?

Your equipment is all pretty decent looking, I wouldnt replace anything else, just work on cleaning up everything. Maybe a custom drop floor or something to hide the amps inside of it (shouldnt be too hard)

thanks, i do like the amps being visible. i do not want to hide them. i might make some sort of amp rack but i haven't thought any ideas out yet. it's to cold to get to into it.

i guess it's ghetto in a way but whatever. it's to cold and i don't really feel like spending the time to build a box right now. i like the fact that it's different and in person it doesn't look that bad. i think i'm just gonna clean up and hide the wiring once i get the stuff i ordered and call it a day. my car isn't gonna win any first place trophies at any big time car shows anyway so i don't really feel the need to have it look like a show car in the trunk. as long as it sounds good and looks decent.

thanks, i mean it doesnt really have to be a show car to have a nice setup, its just what you perfer, but seriously you cant go wrong with building your own setup if you have the time and tools( i sure wouldnt be doing nothing in 20 degree weather)

it's tuned low...... 30HZ. with this size port and box and tuning it has very flat response. the F3(-3db) point is down at 28hz. it sounds ammmaaaaazzzing!

jesus man. you're getting hated on here! what's up with this crap?

my props to you on your ghetto rig. personally i like it...a lot. you're startin to make me think about my system...so let me thank you in advance....thanks for making me spend more money on stuff i really dont need but i just kinda want.

dont wry about your amps, they look great where they are. dont wry about your box, it serves its purpose and its compact. and dont worry about better wire or new amps. that's not how you improve SQ in a serious fashion. you change out the stuff that produces the sound, just like you did. so props to you on a job well done and a very nice system. a 16 band eq works just fine for tuning a system such as yours, dont let people shove you the other way.

SL just ____es me off sometimes. the guy's got a setup that sounds good and all you give him is hate. it aint your car, and he's happy with it. so shut it already.

thank you. most people on here don't seem to know car audio and sound quality very well and just seem to focus on looks. my favorite forum as of late is diymobilecaraudio.com . most of those guys really know their stuff.

it took some getting used to because i saw that small box with a freaking smoke stack coming out of it and i thought you were one of those ____s that just cut a hole in a sealed enclosure and call it a day, thats why i asked for the tuning. but i looked on that diymobile place and they have some nice stuff. im going to register over then today.
and what formula did you use for the round port to get the tuning?

nah, i didn't just cut a hole in a sealed box and call it a day. it was a sealed box that i cut a hole into but i spent time figuring out tuning and all that good stuff. it seriously sounds amazing, honestly. i am truly shocked to get such a good sound out of such a small box. i'm done with SPL and i'm heading towards SQ now. not that i ever had a REALLY loud system but if it doesn't sound perfect i'm not happy.

oh and i used a program called WINISD to figure out box size and tuning.

Did you make the port the exact length WinISD specified? If so, your port is too short. That software and others like it presumes the port won't be close to the box walls. The length they specify only works if the tube is located at least the same distance as it's diameter from every surface. Your hole in the corner and routing of the tube close to the inside walls will require a longer port to acheive the same tuning frequency as when the port is optimally implemented. Even if you already knew this, I hope others take note, because those unaware might follow your example and get less than the expected result.

Nothing wrong with some or all of a port being outside the box, and it gives you a lot of opportunity to experiment with directional loading and aesthetics.

As for SQ, that sub will sound even better in a smaller sealed box, and still produce flat bottom-octave bass due to the car's transfer function. If the output isn't enough in a sealed box (better trade-off than the increased group-delay due to porting, imo), the RSS315HO-4 (12") would get the job done, as it's -3dB point is <30Hz anechoically in just a 0.65' enclosure, which would be <20Hz in-car. You can check it out HERE if you haven't already seen this implementation.

if you're looking for only sq you should tune down to like 17-25 that will give you an amazingly flat response (or should)

i didn't know this.... have anything proving it? slot ports are against a wall too. i have never heard anybody mention this.
