Me 2, the dealer gave me 3, but the valet key I cant use it no more, it is hidden in my car, for the alarm system. The car would not do the remote start with out that key.

yeah you can get a new one made, but my dealer told me this. Its like 150+bux to get a new one of mine, 07, but you also need this little metal tab in the picture

If you don't have it, you can still get it made but it will take a lot longer supposedly b/c they have to go through your car's documentation at Headquarters to see what they have to do to program it to you car's specifications.

Edit: Better Thanks for the look out man, although it would be hard to get to my car

lol as long as you have your 3 your ok, its just when you need a new one your gonna have to wait a little longer, I'm thinking a week or two more, so they can find your stuff. However I think that is only for the remote keys b/c you can by the blanks like the valet key on ebay and just have it cut to our key an then do the steps to register in the cars computer. You can only have 4 chips registered at once and we already have 3 so that gives you one to play with if needed. So if you need a remote one expect a longer wait without the tab, if you need a valet one, it may be quicker.

OleksiyMU – Did you buy it used from a private-party, or through a dealership?

I’m not certain, but I thought that all tCs come with 3 keys, 2 main keys (with the remote entry) and one valet key. If you only received the valet key, then someone else has 2 fully-functional keys to your vehicle… It might not be a bad idea to have the locks/ignition re-keyed and re-programmed. It’s probably not cheap, but neither is your insurance deductible…

You never know who has a copy of a key and what they might do with it. I bought my first vehicle from a friend of mine. I came out of school one day on my off-hour and found his ex-girlfriend rummaging through MY truck. Apparently she had a spare key and didn’t know that he had sold the truck to me. She was trying to “teach him a lesson” but I had ended up “teaching her a lesson” instead.

Thats what he said!

I would get it all checked out and get new keys and programming. Thats just me tho. I have had two cars stolen only because they were a little older and the key cylinder was wore down, so almost any key worked to take them. There is nothing worse then going outside to get into your car to go to work and wondering where its at.

So every car i have bought no matter how many keys i get, it gets re-keyed and programmed with a new alarm system so i dont have any issues!

Default Slightly off topic: can battery be changed in our keys?

I've noticed that I have to be much closer to the car to lock it with my key now. (I guess that's to be expected after 2 years.) I'm betting there's a battery in the key that is starting to weaken. Do they change the battery out or do I have to buy a new key? How much does it cost? Thanks!

Yeah the remote ones use batteries. Kinda like the battery used in computers. Look in the manual it explains how to take the key apart and what battery number you need. I don't remember it off hand.
