when the d1 and n2 first came out.. that was the first time they had the safety feature built into the software itself.. that made people scamble for a way to bypass it..

once it was figured out.. it required opening up the hedunit to perform a bit of soldering work...

let's say pioneer found themselves with quite a few broken units because of people that tried to do it failed... blah blah... whatever..

so when the d2 and n3 came out... they're like ehhh.. whatever... created that switch and tamper seal...

basically.. instead if having people break units and crap because they suck at soldering, they'd rather just have you void the warranty (which what happens when you break the seal)

from there, if you get into an accident because you're a dumba**, Pioneer can look at that seal and say... "ha! i'm not responsible.. so-and-so decided to do that."
works for me! lol

do you have to pay for navigation like a service or something or you just download maps and just plug in and play?

They come with maps on a DVD already, but you can buy updates too.

i havent yet encountered any aftermarket decks that work with the steering controls. i dont remember which comapny makes them, but someone makes a peripheral to add on to the decks to make them work

My Problem is I can't decide if the Avic-z2 is really worth it. What do you guys think? It seems pretty cool and I like my buddies d3 in his xA but I don't like the fact that you have to have the nav disc in it to use the nav. Do you guys think that the z2 is worth it or is there something out there thats better for around the same price? And, i'm looking on ebay by the way.

Just caught this post. Bought a d3 today and getting ready to install it. You have to set back the unit?
