Default Options for Gauge Pod with Side Curtain Air Bags?

What are your Options as far as Gauge Pods go if you have Side Curtain Air Bags?
From what I've Read, the A-Pillar Pods can't be Used.. but then I also Read something along the lines of.. "The A-Pillar doesn't even move..".
So what's the Real Deal? I really like the look of the A-Pillar Pod, and would definitely prefer that over Mounting something in the Middle of my Dash..
I didn't even know that the Curtains were an Option, or is it Year Specific? I have an 09'.
Thanks a lot Guys.

well when my side curtain airbags went off they actually shot straight down. Im sure if they do get deployed and you have gauges something will get messed up. But your right, the a-pillar does look a lot better.

Well the airbag stops a little past the a-pillar. Im sure if you wire all the gauges away from the bag, you would be ok.

Yeah, just leave some Slack for the Wires.
Is there any Issue with Removing the A-Pillar? Just Pull it Off?

Well I use panel tools from work. There is a metal rod that is attached to the a-pillar. It connects to a plastic collar thats in the car. Its tough to get off but with a good tug it will pop off.

pull Apillar out at the top, grab it about 6" down and give it a pull, airbag pillars will only come out about an inch.

You can then look behind the pillar and you will see the metal pin holding it in place.and the beleive it was black plastic clip the pin goes in.

with a knife, which is what I used cut the plastic plug on a couple of sides, then give the pillar a tug and it will wiggle right off.

The plug is $2.66 at the dealership, takes them about 24 hours to order it......

once it arrives replace it and when ready put the pillar back in place and give it a whack at the top to insert pin to the plug.

It will take you 20 minutes to get the first one off and 5 for the second once you can look at how it works.

when i looked it at it, i dont think its really something to worry about gauges flying off.. the a pillar is designed not to fly off when airbags thats why it has that very stong retainer to hold it in place

it looks clean but gauges are too far away you will have to completely get your eyes off the road lol

IMHO yeah... I think the gauges look better on the A-Pillar. but both safety wise and easier to read is using a triple center mount pod that goes at the top of the waterfall on the tC.
I've sat in one of each..and personally it was easier for my eyes to glance at the gauges on the center mount and back to my main gauges. Less for eyes to have to focus on different depths.
Of course, that's just me personally and wouldnt want extra crap able to fly around at head level in an accident anyways.. lol

so please don't bash

The side curtain air bags are year specific. I believe from 08^ they are standard and before 08 they were an option I think. At least that is how I remember it from when I was selling them. Almost no one got them as an option. But was nice when they were standard....nice to have some extra protection.
