Bastards... sooo jealous. Unless you get the pro discount or it's your work, i just don't know how people spend that kind of money on this stuff.

Hopefully its not like the Eclipse HDD unit where it rips while playing.
From Pioneer :
CD ripping to HD is @ 2X comparing to Eclipse 5495 it's only @ 1X only

What are the other differences between the Z1 and the 5495? Curious... what's the price difference? Can anyone compare the Nav systems? I assume they use the same map data, but I think the Z1 has some special "smart" routing stuff. I don't know about the eclipse. I haven't heard amazing things about the UI on either of them.

The 5495 doesn't have bluetooth - that would be a dealbreaker for me. But so is the MSRP...

Yea unfortunately for Eclipse product, but keep in mind that AVN5495 came out
last year and the AVIC-Z1 still hasn't offically avaliable in the market, who is to say
Eclipse won't come out with something later in the year to counter the AVIC-Z1
just my 2 cents. As for MSRP those are just for references almost anyone can get
better deal online anyways.

Oh I completely agree - I expect Eclipse and hopefully others to follow up. I'm also interested in seeing TomTom or someone else make a unit that is a little closer to a head unit replacement on their own, because the prices are still so high on these things. As for MSRP, I assume that a $2300 unit will actually go for like $1800 - that's the price I was saying was still too high.

Hey Squall, is it plug and play with the Scion tC wire harnesses? And also for those with steering wheel controls, will we have to get that separate harness to get it to go? Lastly, to load mp3's on it, is it necessary to listen to a CD the whole way through, because I read a review on Crutchfield about how the 5495 can only record in real time (although the reviewer may have been wrong). Ok that's it for now. Thanks for the pics by the way =)

If you have been reading up on this thread, most of your ?s have already been answered but of course nothing is certain til it is actually released and we test it out for ourselves.

1) Uncertain about the wire harness, will have to wait until it is released for that but I know that for my Pioneer CD deck (860), I needed a kit.

2)PAC has a kit (made for Camry but works with tC) that lets you use your steering wheel controls with almost any aftermarket deck. If the Z1 doesn't already have one, the PAC adapter is the next best solution.

3) It is true that the 5495 has to rip in real time (1x). However for the Z1, it is listed as ripping upto/at 4x so it'll take 1/4th the time it takes you to listen to the whole CD, I think.

most likely it will NOT be plug and play.. only units i've seen do that are the AVNs.

so yeah.. that means adapter if you want steering wheel controls too.... which i'm not sure how that's really gonna work out..

and as for ripping CDs... have no clue... but i doubt it's real-time..... cause one.. that's just stupid of them to do that.. and two... i think ndnbolla is about right... 4x or something maybe...

Default ipod control

anyone know how well the z1 will control an ipod? i've heard that the d1 doesn't do a very good job with ipods but this new unit might be a different story.

ipod adapter... it should just be like the d1... controlled from the unit itself..

i don't know how well the d1 controls the ipod.. but it does do it. i expect the same format.

where did you hear the d1 doesn't do it very well?

The accounts I've heard of the D1's iPod controls have been largely anecdotal from other similar forums. I did a little poking around on Pioneer's website and the CD-IB100 (the iPod interface adapter) supports a large number of head units. Some units are supported fully, amongst them are the AVIC-Z1!!! and AVIC-N3. The D1 is supported under "external unit control, with some limitations in operation and display." So this might explain the less-than-optimal interface. I've heard it's slow and only displays eight characters of the song title but I haven't see any of this firsthand so please correct me if I'm wrong.
