Default two led light kits for floor

i got some 12v leds that i managed to hide (not visible at all) down by my feeties... however i plugged them into my speaker + - and i seem to have blown the capacitor or something... i dind't think that when the bass hits it's puts out more than 12v of power to eat speaker... that's sick.. anyone have any better suggestions were to wire the leds to? and their long bar leds, so their not just the little lights you would have lyin around. also... should i go with led again or neon?

Uhmm you would normally wire them directly to your battery with a switch, or with a tap-in fuse and switch.

their is a switch.. but what wouldbe wrong with wiring them through the amp? it's the same power, maybe not the speakers, i just did that to pulse.. but i figured if anything that wouldn't be enough power.. not to much power

what.. did you actually blow......? do the bars still even work..?

my guess is they're sooo fried...
btw.... do you KNOW what an amp even does?

*cough*.. i'll give you a hint... amp is short for amplifier.

do what you want... but perhaps get some help before you fry the entire car... better off just running power from the battery to a switch... or tap it from the cig. lighter or something..

^ +1

watts and volts arent the same thing.
Sound + lighting on same circuit = bad noises.
DONT plug the LEDs into the amp.

So...I'm not the only one who thinks hooking cathodes up to a speaker is bad? I really know nothing electrical, but that sounds wrong.

NEVER GROUND A SPEAKER and Neons suck leds rule!!! neons hiss at a high frequency, leds dont take anything to power and last 4ever.
that said:
1. go to a lowes hardware store, get the switch that fits its there in the yard lighting section, (if not just get a toggle switch from wally world), solder & 3M tape, (do it right not that crimp cap crap).

2. wire the lights positive (+) to constant 12v, either off the ignition or the radio if your scured.

3. wire the negative to the switch and the switch to the chassis.

4. if you wanna get dope with it, use a diode isolator ( at radio shack) to allow the negative to travel one way, preventing the door ajar light being on

5. wire the negative (-) coming from the lights to the door pins (which are grounded (-) when the door is open) so you will have illumination whenever you open your door, or unlock the car.
they dim like the domelight and turn off automatically if the door is left open, custom courtesey lights. good luck.

6. if you don't want your lights to have constant power (in order to prevent you from leaving them on if you forget to flip the switch) wire the positive (+) from the ;lights to the accessory wire either on your ignition, behind the radio, or from the cigarette lighter (positive on cig lighters are opposite of white with black stripe)

if you want the leds to work with the music, peep streetglow's music interface.

im not sure which way to wire the silver stripe on the diode to allow negative to pass through. ill test one at work next time im in.
