This is just to document what needs attention and what will be upgraded on my new to me tC
I've had the car for two weeks now. It has 255,000 miles and runs pretty strong. I put 300 miles on it last week going out to work and back so the miles are going to stack up pretty quick. I've already been thinking about buying a motor to rebuild and have ready for when this one gives up the ghost. If it will last through next summer ill he pretty happy. I think it will do fine up until 300,000 or so then it may be time for a fresh motor and tranny.
But for now, so far I've done plugs and oil change. And today my aim was to pull the wheels and repaint them black and do some inspection while I was at it. I found the passenger side brake caliper is trying to seize up so that will get replaced soon and on the drivers side I found the ball joint from the steering rack at the knuckle was loos as hell and the cotter pin was barely hanging on. Threads were all flattened out so a new one was in order and after a test drive things felt much tighter and the buzz in the steering wheel seems to have gone away.
So the plans for now are
Fix clutch clevis thingy
Both lower front control arms
Check and replace suspension bushings as needed
New headlight housings
Future
Amp and speakers because what's in it are junk, maybe a head unit
wheels, maybe, some bronze koenigs would look pretty good
Cat back exhaust
I may plastidip the whole thing but I don't know how that's going to hold up to the Texas sun.
Its a 5 speed. I'm having some clutch issues. I replaced the clevis attached to the pedal and it helped but the clutch releases pretty close to the floor. I have a new master but damn it looks unlike a pain in the ___ to change out. So today I will change the fluid out to see if maybe that has something to do with it.
I've been tinkering with it and have it running pretty good now. Pulled and cleaned the throttle body today and its idling better now. Was a little rough. Going to change PCV valve tomorrow then onto the lower front control arms and then the VVT on the cam.
I did get the clutch working right with a new clevis mount and adjustment. It grounds just a little going into 3rd and figured bout that the bushings on the ends of the shifter cables are worn pretty bad. At $300 a piece it will be a little bit before those get changed though.
