Bad News for Hatch Rattle Sufferers
Straight from the top, the south east region represenative for Toyota Corp states that Toyota's Scion division realizes there is an issue with the rear hatch rattle of the Scion tC. However they are deaming the situation a 'normal' part of the cars design and at this time, are not offering a perminent fix.
They told me that they have tried "everything". From completly removing the rear glass, installing more silicone sealent, extending bump stops, strut replacment, complete hatch replacements, etc... and nothing has resolved the rattle issue.
They said that they will contact me if a fix is found. What a bunch of BS!

I got my car used- yeah used. built in 08/04. Rattled from day one, even though I didn't notice when I test drove it.
I have taken some foam insulation (sticky on one side) and cut pieces where the rubber stops meet each other (4 total) . Also, when I close the hatch, I just close it enough to hear it click. Don't slam it, just pull it down until it touches, then gently push down until it clicks shut. That has to do with the strut problem I think.
I haven't had a rattle since then, and I can hear any little noise that shouldn't be there.

Really? 20k miles on an 05 an nothing yet.
And as far as "Coming from the top" on the comment... that is far, far from the top. I have also heard rumors "from the top" regarding everything else about the tC that were full of it. Take it to a dealer that knows what they are doing. A good tech should be able to isolate the rattle and fix it... It doesnt matter if Scion has an official fix for it. A skilled tech (or definitely a good private mechanic) should be able to fix it once they isolate it.

I have sent eight letters to Toyota and Scion, each to a different department of the company, regaurding all the garbage I went through at Tustin Toyota, just trying to get them to fix the interior damage they caused my car during routine service and a warranty issue.
It's been a good three weeks, and I have yet to receive so much as a "We're Sorry" from Toyota directly, although Scion Customer Service has been great.
The BBB's website is, of course: http://bbb.com/
Just click on "Lemon Law/Auto Warranty" under "File A Complaint."
