Well, VA is a Commonwealth and because of this you fall under the laws of the commonwealth when you are in the commonwealth I guess technically they could give you a ticket for it. This is how radar detectors are illegal in VA and why they can confiscate them from you if you are caught with it. I always figured that I was a resident of another state and therefore they couldn't make me surrender it the them.

I don't think a single cop would pull you over in VA for the tint with NY plates, because I am sure that would be a lot of paper work and hassle for a tint ticket. I would think that I cap might pull you over for the tint but would probably give you a ticket/warning for something like improper signaling or tail gating instead.

Yeah I always take the radar detector off my windshield when I'm goin through VA. I could see how they confiscate it but I'm more worried about my tail lights and tints. I mean, I'm from NY and FL, which are both no where near VA.

To the OP:

I didn't read htis whole thread, but I'll give you the rundown. I have plenty of these tickets over my 7 years in the wonderful communist-wealth of Va. First off, tint is 50% on front windows 35% on rear. As for the exhaust, anything that isn't stock, you can be ticketed for, and thats not just exhaust, they can ticket you for anything that doesn't appear to be "stock". I'm honestly wondering if this is the same cop that got me awhile back. He came flying out of the median lights and sirens blaring because I didn't have a front plate. It was on the seat next to me, he didn't write me a ticket for that, but was nice enough to give me tint and exhaust tickets.

Yet another reason I like to say in MD, but I don't know their laws they may be just as bad as VA. But I don't know if that is possible. jk

Here in TX around my area they're very **** about both license plates showing or being on the bumper. I didn't wanna put any screws in my front bumper so I put it on my dash. I got pulled over 3 times for that but never got a ticket :D

I disagree, because cops should not abuse their power. However, if you are doing something illegal and complaining about getting caught, then that's your fault not the cop who is doing his/her job. At the same time, I think a lot of vehicle laws are stupid and have nothing to do with safety, rather it's a tool to give cops reasonable cause to stop you= control. Sure it's great for cops, but not so great for those of us who are good people and minding our own business.
