I think a lot of vehicle laws are stupid and have nothing to do with safety, rather it's a tool to give cops reasonable cause to stop you= control. Sure it's great for cops, but not so great for those of us who are good people and minding our own business.
Cops don't make the laws.
No but some do think that and act like that. Plus then you have to contest it to prove to them they are wrong which is a lot of time. And most judges I have dealt with like the cops word a lot more than anyone else.

It is illegal to wear a bullet-proof vest when committing a crime. Do you really think that a criminal worries about that? Or that it prevents it from happening?

And just for fun, http://www.main.com/~anns/other/humor/sillylaws.html

Some laws are created for a reason, some are created out reaction but some traffic laws are strange and just annoying. If our cars are safe and pass emissions why does it matter about the exhaust that is used if it is less that 95 db? Have you heard a Harley with the baffles out? They have to be louder than 95db.

And VA has said that it raises the traffic fines on VA residents to support their highway expansion efforts. Which in my book is just another way of taxing with out raising taxes. Road and Track said that in VA wreck less driving can be considered honking your horn or flashing your lights at a slow moving vehicle in the left lane. Fine for out of sate: $250 fine for VA resident: over $1000

I still don't understand what is so bad about tint.

The flashing your lights part is wrong. In the state of VA if you flash your lights at some one technically they have to pull over per the law. My dad is a state trooper that's how I know. Yes there are some random bs off the wall laws but every state has them. And as for the increased fines I thought they ruled that unconstitutional and did away with it.

Having a license plate cover, even if it's clear...Is that a safety issue? No. Is it a deterrent for tab theft? Yes.

No front plate...the ONLY reason why this law exists, is because cops want to see your plate # from the front. Then they say you don't have to have a front plate if the dealership didn't drill holes. Stupid.

No tint on windshield..But you can tint the side windows??? stupid.

Aftermarket exhaust and cold air intake...Are they really bad for the environment?

x2 on the honking your horn during non-emergency...stupid.

license plate cover is illegal because it obstructs a full clear view of the license plate. ive actually been ticketed for that before.

yes, your right about the no front plate, but actually if the dealer didnt drill holes, you need to drill them yourself or take it to a shop and have it done.

I believe tint is allowed on the top 6" of your windshield, anything lower than that and its an obstruction of your view. i have 5% rear and 35% front as well as 5% on the top 6" of my windshield, ive got 4 tint tickets already, so i can assure you that its already extremely dark inside my car and the view out isnt great either, so if you were to do the whole windshield, you wouldnt be able to see isht. not to mention (if for some reason) a cop is in front of your car and cant see cuz your windshield is tinted...for all he knows you could be pointing a gun at him.

The only reasons the exhuast and intake are illegal are because emmisions laws and noise laws. ive got exhaust tickets before too.

im not saying it doesnt suck and i dont do any of this, cuz as you can see, ive already got tickets for almost all that stuff. but when im given a ticket for the isht i understand its my fault and i also understand the cops perspective.

OH, AND KEEP IN MIND

laws are diff in diff states, so everything i just said could be completely wrong in your state. haha

cops ARE b****** !! i once also got pulled over in CA for modified exhaust, driving normally in local traffic. (he didn't pull me over for sound, but for visual reason)... had to go through so much to clear it... and what ____es me off is that there were mustangs, neons, harleys, and trucks that sound wayyy wayy louder than my itty bitty axleback, passing by...

just had to tell myself i was in the wrong place in the wrong time with the wrong cop.. just bad luck really. i passed by so many cops before with the same setup, they never cared until that day!

It shall be unlawful to fail to give way to overtaking traffic when driving a motor vehicle to the left and abreast of another motor vehicle on a divided highway. They can also have a glare or over time have a hazy/milky appearance making them harder to read. It kinda comes in helpful to read someones plates when they are trying to run from you. Or when they have someone pulled over and they are in there cruiser.

When I was younger I used to get busted for just about everything I did. In WI, revving your engine is a ticketable offense called an "un-neccesary display of power". At the time I thought it was bs, but looking back the ticket was deserved. I was trying to start a street race.

In regards to the front licence plate, you are issued 2 plates, thus you are required to use them both. I personaly only use the rear and have never been pulled over for it. Maybe it's luck, maybe it's because I don't drive like a dick anymore.

Bottom line, the OP got busted for breaking the law, suck it up and pay your fines. You f'd up and got caught, plain and simple. Quit being a b*t*h, take care of your business, and learn a lesson.

Contrary to popular belief VA state troopers do not have a quota. The main thing they are concerned with is there conviction rate. NC state police are the same way also. Every one seems to forget that laws are meant to keep you and the people enforcing them safe. If you think a law is stupid write a well organized letter to your state rep. stating why the law needs to be changed instead of complaining about people who are doing there job. Yes some cops are dicks but you would to if you had people arguing with all the time.

I am in know way saying everything the police do is right. I'm just tired of people complaining about things but yet they are not willing to do something to fix it. I'm not talking about any one person just stating an observation.

This is a very good point. If you don't like the laws, do something about it. Don't just sit arround and cry about it on the internet. There is no way possible I could ever be a cop. Almost everyone you deal with is lieing to you and feeding you a line of bs. Give me a gun and add in my lack of tolerance for stupidity, that is a problem waiting to happen. I have no idea how some cops can keep their cool, but I give them credit for doing so.
