in all honesty, i've driven auto all my life until i got my last car in stick... and i will never go back.
i have NO qualms with people driving auto. that's totally fine, but you CANNOT say that driving auto is better than manual in terms of the driving experience. if traffic is a factor, in my opinion, i don't notice it anymore... but i can understand that it can get annoying. but other than that, letting go of the gas pedal a half second before the car shifts is no comparison to shifting yourself. AGAIN, I HAVE NO QUALMS WITH PEOPLE WHO DRIVE AUTO, but coming from one who didn't drive stick until three years ago i can say that the only feel auto has in driving is the lack thereof...
if you can get the opportunity to drive stick, then i say by all means take advantage of it, even if you end up hating it. at least you'll be ABLE to say that you tried it, didn't like it, moved on rather than saying holding the pedal half second longer is the way to go.
