"Fees" Question for tC owners
Hey cool. I went to MSU a few years back, and then moved to ND. Moved back a year ago and will eventually go back and finish school. The only dealer in MT is in Missoula and my buddy bought a xb from them - I dont like them at all so I bought my tC from Spokane.
the delivery fee is the only legit fee charged. the documentation fee is just an added BS dealer charge. pure profit. it has nothing to do with nothing. In Se florida I only found 2 places that do not charge it, Earl Stuart Scion of North West Palm Beach and Hollywood scion. Now of course this fee is totally negotiable and they can take if off completely, problem is why would they? One dealer told me straight out they would waive it on the xA or xB but not Tc. Maybe you should call some dealers and ask if they charge the fee, if they do just say "Ok, Im looking for a dealer that doesnt charge this to do business with, bye bye" and see if they offer to waive it. But in the end, if you get good financing and only the options u really want, you really cant lose with this car, dont let the dealer fee spoil your buying experience.
When I went to purchase the TC the other day, I was on the look out for all these high price extra crap things and was pleasantly suprised to see the doc fee was only 190...and that was the only thing that I thought was extra. I was all worried after reading about the 600+ doc fee.

Document/Tax/Title Fees are linked to the individual dealerships based on what state/county they are in and are not determined by Toyota/Scion. NY and Cali residents pay for higher emissions than anyone else. Is that Scion's fault, NO. Stop blaming Scion for fees that are the responsibility of the state in which you live.
Even if Scion decided to sell the car for $20K to give you room to haggle, you would still have to pay these fees. So stop whining and enjoy the car you still got a cheap price.

I also paid quite a bit over the base price for document/tax/title whatever fees, it ended up costing me a little over $18K in the end. Document fees are tacked on if you're financing, just like the ones you're charged for securing any other loan, the bank decides this. Taxes you have to pay based on your state and/or county. Title fees also required based on state and/or/county. Always read the fine print where it says "additional fees may apply", this holds Scion not liable for fees the dealer may or may not charge, they can not speak for them.
....fees vary dealer to dealer and state to state . i think ohio has capped "fees" for doc/regrist. at $100 . in kentucky it can vary from $100-700 .
don't take it out on the scion salesperson . some actually goes to the paperwork , most to profit . salespeople realize it is mainly non-commissioned gross . write your congressman/woman and get your state to end this uncontrolled practise .
..also , i think the southeast region all toyota products pass between a middleman before the dealer . ( smart guy , years ago agreed to handle toyotas .)

Your destination fee is built into the price of the car because it is on the sticker and there is nothing we can do about it. The destination fee in most states is $515. If you are in the Gulf States region or the SET region it is higher because you have a private distibutor for your cars. Very hard to explain. As for the Doc Fee at my dealership, it is $299.50 and I thought that was high. I can not imagine paying more than that myself.
