Ford Fusion/rant
I got a Malibu when the tC was in the shop. 2.2L Ecotec, 4-speed automatic, ugh. When I got back in the tC after a week, it felt like a sports car compared to the mushy suspension and lethargic engine/tranny combo in the 'Bu.

Now now, play nice. I just realized mine is a V6, i never paid it any mind lol. Man, it's got no cajones in the low end! It'll give ya a slight kick up high, but as far as city driving goes, it's pretty vanilla.
With the travel I do, and using Nationals Emerald Aisle, I try to pick out something different every time to try things out
They dont normally have anything special in the aisle, but every now and then you get a decent one, or they are short and place a premium in those spots. A few I had in the last year or so:
Cobalt - base model, pretty vanilla
Malibu - Alright car, but boring
Mustang - V6, pretty bland power wise, but rwd in a rental is a nice touch and it was fun to drive for a rental
Mazda 6 - Not what I would pick to buy, but a nice little car
Nissan Altima - CVT SUCKED, seemed so so overall at first, but already had tons of rattles and noises at about 5000 miles.
Vibe - Biggest POS ever, cant believe Toyota had a part in that one
Saturn Vue - IT was loaded, leather, all options.. so not too bad, but wouldnt buy one after I have seen how badly they age over 50,000 miles or so.
Dodge Magnum - Big, dumpy drives like a dump truck.. didnt like it at all
Volvo S40 - Felt nice, drove pretty nice. Not so pretty to look at and back seats were a joke. The fact that you can program pretty much every button in the car is a nice touch (auto up down on each side, one side, not at all, auto up but not down.. etc)
G6 - Ok car overall.. obviously not as nice in its rental form. But still kind of bland.. just another grand am

Wow, that Volvo's got some pretty smart buttons!! That was one of the first things I noticed about the Fusion, no auto up/down. It's amazing how you get used to little things like that, and when they're gone you miss 'em like crazy!

As for the Vibe, I think it's Toyota getting back at GM for constantly running those meaningless anti-Toyota and Honda ads. "Woooo... we have Onstar! if your car breaks down, we would send help". Sure, breaking down, that's what GM cars does the best.

on topic....
best rental car I ever had was a Chrysler 300... then again I am pretty biased...
worst was a Kia spectra with 30k miles on it, ran like ____, alignment was way off (going straight down the road the steering wheel was 70 degrees off to the left) and it had no *****.
When we went to Hawai'i for two weeks for our honey moon we got a Nissan Xterra and it was fun a huge change as we both drive tCs but fun just the same and for the second week on a different island we somehow got stuck with a sky blue PT Cruiser...
I made my husband drive.

i dont think it even had a cd player.
and i got cut off by like 3 semis on the way to the mall (yea i went to the mall in that thing...ouch)
it had no ponies so i had to shoulder it just to avoid being sideswiped.
LOL, when i needed a rental from Enterprise, they were going to give me a Ford Taurus (Is that spelled right?). And luckily enough they, at first were going to give me an Altima, but it was a Maxima instead, so they just lent it to me at the price of an Altima (dont really know why, but it was cheaper).

"V" would indicate that the engine is laid out in a V-configuration, which it is not. Soo...you're just wrong, dude.
