Interesting info coming out, Stu - hope no one gets lost in the 17 pages before they get to this part...

(I still think it would have been better to start a fresh topic on trying to build a case, rather than hoping folks would wade through so many pages to get there, but too late now - Good Luck!)

very interesting post...i just sat here and read all 18 pages!!

anywho, do all five cases have similar noise while under load?

i have about 18100 miles on my car...only sounds coming from mine are a couple hatch rattles and "ticking" / "clicking" whenever i shift.

good luck Stu...hopefully this all gets resolved soon.

i hear the tick sometimes from under the hood while I am driving on the highway really. It is louder when I press the gas and dissapears when I let off. I have only 9500 miles. I thought maybe it was the heat shield. I need to go check this out....hmmm interesting....

You will hear pseudo knocks, rattles, ticks, etc.. especially the more you listen to an engine. Newer engines with solid lifters, vtec, vvti, etc, make more noises. So dont get too panicky. Obviously a few have had serious engine problems, and some's dealers (stu in particular) either dont know the FIRST thing about what they are doing or are trying to screw him with pathetic reasoning... So I sincerely hope that gets taken care of... and if you called them out with an atorney and real mechanic they would fold I am sure.

But, dont get too bent out of shape over the common noises. If you have a real knock, it will worsen fairly quickly. So keep an eye/ear on it.

"Knocks" are one of the most mis-diagnosed sounds a car can make. I have heard piston slap, mechanical fuel pumps, clutch issues, and normal valve train noise all mis-diagnosed as knocks at first.

I am guessing (an educated guess is all we can offer until more is known) that the issue lies somewhere in the oiling system or crank/bearing manufacture. But we wont know until a dealer actually truthfully diagnoses it.

I think that this was the right move.. although 3 or 4 of the 17 pages are probally filled with guesses.. the majority of them show how I diagnosed the situation myself and through the help of others. I am actually happy with the turn-out of help, interest, concern and mechanical expertise I would say this has to be one of the most enlightening, yet costly ventures with my car yet

Dont get all freaked out just yet.. you will hear some stuff.. TRUST ME.. you will know if something isn't quite right.. I hope I cant speak about the similar noise while under load.. I know in my case and James case.. they did. Thanks again!

Well.. again, I wont tell you exactly what to do.. I will regards to your car and saying that out of concern for your own financial situation.. but if it gets worse.. and its really noticeable.. then its your call... if you have mods... take them off and get it checked out.. again.. its UP TO YOU. Maybe good that you did, or it might not be... be careful.. and dont just jump on the first noise you hear either.. some people are going to panic and wonder if this tick could mean this.. or this knock mean this.. you'll know if its jacked up.. TRUST ME

I dont think having Toyota reps trying to help me is going to work... Toyota-vs-Toyota in the legal battlefeild means.. someone is going to lose their job.. usually the lower level person.. if it comes down to it.. i'll concider.. we do have one insider helping us out though Thanks bro!

again I say, damm dude, you got your shizzle together. I can't help but continually check up on this thread. Way to communicate team. Please, keep us informed as this of course will be something I listen for as well as anything out of the usual spectrum of machinery noise.
