Default Help!! Whizzing sound when going above 70mph

I want to know if anyone else has had this problem.

When I am on the highway and I begin approaching 70mph, there is a loud, high-pitched whizzing sound coming from the firewall somewhere on the driver's side. This is exremely annoying an dthe only way to combat it is to roll down the windows and turn the radio up really loud. Has anyone else had this problem. I am thinking I could be a gap where I ran the Amp power wire through the firewall. The only problem there is that I used the existing grommet and did not have to put any holes in grommet at all. I dont know, any suggestions?

Throttle body.

Do a search...it's posted constantly ;)

I rather enjoy it.

Did you guys read the post? At all?

This isn't the throttle body hissing. This is a wind noise issue at high speed. I would double check that grommet that you used - whether it was there or not, you might want to be sure its STILL there.

Otherwise, take it to the dealer and see if they can find the wind noise issue.

He said high pitched=generally not wind noise.

Plus, why is there wind in his engine compartment?

He said firewall, not engine compartment - but in case you weren't sure, the firewall is connected to the engine compartment - like, the entire thing. And wind noise most certainly can be high pitched... ever heard a messed up trim piece start to whistle at high speeds? I have.

My thought is that if this were the throttle body/airbox, it would be much more prominent at low speeds as you accelerate. If I'm on the highway with the windows up, I don't EVER hear the throttlebody whistle.

hehe

I'd have to guess it's the intake or thorttle body. Both are located right on the driver's side. High pitched sounds alot like air leakage/vacumm

Well yeah...my point exactly...if wind is getting to the fire wall...it comes from the engine compartment.

And as far as the throttle body noise...mine is most prominent when cruising at highway speeds, I actually think in 5th, it kicks in at 70 in my car as well. During normal driving when I'm speeding up, slowing down, I don't notice as much because I have to pay attention to the road.

Im not sure what the throttle body noise is you guys are speaking of. This noise doesnt sound muffled at all. I figure if the throttle body was making some kind of noise then the sound would be muffled. This noise sounds like its right behind my instrument cluster. I beat the dash, but that was just dumb. I appreciate the responses....keep em coming!!!!

The throttle body isn't really a muffled sound. As you accelerate it'll increase, decrease....just play w/ your gas pedal when you hear it...if it increases/decreases in pitch, it's probably the throttle body.

I checked that while driving and if what you say is true, the throttle body is def. not the cause of my problem. The sound stays constant (i.e. no change is pitch or volume) when I accelerate or decelerate. the only time the sound changes are as follows:

0-70 mph --> no sound

70-90 mph --> high pitched whizzing sound

90+mph --> lower pitch, same volume on the sound

I guess I'll check the grommet and see if there is any gaps, though that will be extremely difficult.

I had a similar problem. I got my tC in July 04. Starting in Jan. 05 I had a air leak in my windshield. At first it sounded like a bee was buzzing in my dash and happened very rarely. It turned into a whistle and by this month was doing it every day on the freeway above 65mph. I couldnt ignore it anymore, so I took it into the dealer, recreated the sound on a drive with one of their guys, and they fixed it. They had a glass guy come in and re-seal the windshield. I would have taken it in earlier but at first I could ignore it and Im busy so I put it off. This may be your problem. It may sound like its coming from somewhere else, the whistle is hard to isolate. I had passengers say it was coming from the moonroof, floor, or window.
