i know this would sound stupid, but....
would I get more power if i attach a carge pipe from my throttle body, to an intercooler, to an intake tube, to a filter? no turbo or anythin? or is that stupid> it was just a thought.
More likely since there is no turbo, there might be a loss in power due to the more restrictive intercooler in the way of the airflow. Think about it, the turbo pushes air through the intercooler at pressure and without the turbo you're only restricting the airflow. That's how I would imagine it would go down.
just a thought, since idea of a cold air intake is to take air from another place other than the engine bay, so if there's an intercooler present, you can cool the air even more. especially if you inject some nitrous into it
the reason why turbo and supercharged cars have intercoolers is because compressing air causes it to heat up alot. i think 6 pounds of boost create an additional 100 degrees increase in temperature. cool air is denser than hot air, and the intercooler helps cool the air so it has greater density and volume.
since your car doesn't have any sort of forced induction, there is nothing heating the air up on the way into the engine aside from the ambiant air temperature in the engine compartment itself, so there is no reason to cool it down, but a cold air intake allows you to draw in cooler air from outside the engine compartment so it is already cooler on the way into the engine. so there you have it.
