Speaking of range, I just wanted to mention that the range on the stock security system is great - you can unlock it from quite a ways away. One thing I ALWAYS hated about the 3 aftermarket alarms I've had in the past is the range sucked or sometimes varied quite a bit. One minute I could activate the alarm from 50 feet, the next minute I'd literally have to be almost rubbing the fob on the windshield. The stock key seems to work great from about 100 feet - if you can see the car, there is a good chance you can unlock it.

 

get a good aftermarket security system and the range is around a mile in the open. I plan on getting a nice remote start after my warranty is up.

Um... a MILE? Are you kidding? I've never heard even the most expensive systems claiming anything like that. You've got to remember that every alarm I know of uses RF (radio frequency) to arm and disarm - in a way it is a mini radio station. Do you know what kind of power your little fob would have to be putting out to get a range of a mile? Um... way more than the FCC would ever let you put out.

 

whether it voids the electrical part of warranty or not. i'm still gettin teh aftermarket alarm. im gettina huge deal on it. Im gettin the Viper 771xv remote start/alarm for 200 bucks installed. Probably a tad less..

Yes... but the car alarm will still be armed so it would behoove you to either not use the large keyfob or to just keep your glove box unlocked & get copies of the valet key from SCION & not a local key cutter cause all of the keys have the chip in it.

If you want a good remote start AND alarm system there is one BETTER THAN VIPER. Compustar makes a great alarm and remote start the AS system works from a mile and 1/4 away!!! Plus cool color lcd screen, just be careful w/ it. Will set you back $600-$700 installed. You can get it off ebay of course for $225-$300. Someone can install it for $150-300 depending on where you go.

 

Too late. i already bought my viper for only 120.. so that compustar is too much for me..
