My first speeding ticket...

Mind you this highway is the major highway on Long Island and I was actually going with traffic, as a couple of cars were next to me.
So he pulls me over, and I take the car keys out of the ignition, place it on my dashboard above the steering wheel along with my license and registration, with my hands on the steering wheel. He comes over, asks for them and I hand it to him. Comes back about 10 minutes later with a ticket. I was very shocked to this as it was my first offense, (I'm 18 ) and I was VERY polite to him.
Now upon looking at my ticket, I noticed several things. He wrote down my car as a Toyota (yes I know
) and that it was a sedan. Also he mis-spelled my first name (Richard) and he wrote it down as Rirchard. Now can any of these small mistakes help me out should I plea not guilty to the ticket?
As this is my first ticket, I really don't know what the ins and outs are. Can anyone give a tip on how I could possibly beat this one?

Since you said you were speeding, did they write radar on the ticket? was radar used? how long has the cop been working at the princinct? does the cop know the area well? were there any other cars around you? were there any buildings around you? if you did not use radar, are you trained by Highway patrol in speeding detecting?
Those are all the questions i used in my case, luckily, my guy was a rookie, had no point of reference, did not use radar, and was not trained by highway, so i got off. PM me if you want more info.

I guess when I plead not guilt, my date will be around December lol. Think if I postpone the date once or twice, my chances of the cop not showing will increase?
i suggest you pick any of those besides next court date cause you wont win against a cop, especially goin 25 over

in NYC if that cop doesnt show up, all fines and tickets are dismissed on the spot.
No fees, No points, no nothing
But normally in NYC, the cop DOES show up.

Most peeps get lawyers and such after they've acrued multiple tickets. It's just your first offense and I'm sure your driving skills and awareness are acute. Therefore, I would just eat the ticket, take the class and not worry about paying the Court Costs it you lose. A ticket every 1.5 yrs is ok, and will drop off automatically in time.
Last time I went to traffic court, both the cops were there and the judge had no sempathy. This was over a seatbelt, that I was wearing i'ncorrectly' under my arm and not over my shoulder. Court costs added to the ticket more than doubled what my insurance alone would have costed.
Ticket Advice from a cop: Remember to never acknowledging that you made a mistake (however, sometimes they will lower the speed a couple mph in the ticket if your nice). Remember that radar (X, K, Ka) spreads in a fan pattern and can pick up vehicles near you. If you have a radar detector, yank' it down ASAP.
My advice: Look them straight in the eyes. In a very calm yet concerned voice say, "Officer, with all due respect, I truly don't believe I was traveling that fast." Only thing that's ever worked for me.
My girl has gotten out (with warnings) of 17 straight traffic tickets by just crying. Whats up with that!

I live in South Florida and when I got a moving violation ticket (not stopping at a red light to make a right turn but it was 2AM during the week and I checked the road before turning onto it), my ticket came out to $129 and I thought it was BS. I've already been to traffic school twice and didn't want to sit through 4 hours of that crap so I paid a lawyer $69 and then $50 for court fees. I ended up paying $10 less than my ticket and have no points on my record.
You could plead not guilty, go to court and pay the court fee or pay a lawyer and pay for the court fee. If you decide to do it yourself, make sure you tell them that you were keeping up with traffic and didn't want to put yourself or others in danger for driving at speed lower than traffic.
Either way, if someone appears in court, you're going to have to pay court fees.

But in the event you do get pulled over... it doesnt really make you look too innocent of speeding when you have a radar detector sitting on your dash/windshield.
