My first speeding ticket...
has anyone ever been clocked by a plane? this happened to me on a bridge.. i asked to see the speed read out but he said it wasn't possible then pointed to the plane above me (extremely high up in the air, I could barely see it).. i've never had anything like this happen and I can't find any information about it online.

They use mile markers from airplanes/helicopters to check your speed. They time how long it takes for you to travel one mile and use that time to calculate your speed.
Well not xeactly. It's called VASCAR. And what they use are the white lines that appear on the roadway, perpendicularly, about half way accross, usually left to right. You dont have to travel a full mile just until the next white line (a few hundred yards). The spotter hits a stop watch when you pass the first one and then again when you hit the second one and the unit (basically a calculator) computes your speed in MPH. (there are ways to beat it in court if you were close to the limit.
Also they rarely if ever use helicoptors...costs are way too much over a fixed wing. They can stay in a tight circle over an area longer using less fuel then a helo. Thats why he was up so high...smaller circles. Helos use up big time fuel when they hover.
And you shouldnt see this practice in use very often now that gas prices have gone through the roof.

P.S. You're ticket will be expensive! Did he specify your speed on the ticket or put something like " 50+"? If he did specify, anything 10 mph over the limit will be costly.

The officer actually misspelled my name, too, but the person I spoke with at CHP said "No dice - see you in court."
Good luck. And watch your speed!
Hey man...
I live in Wisconsin now, but live in NY for 7 years... 79 in a 55 in Rochester and I got school and like a 2 point ticket instead of 4... you should get it reduced if you go to court... best chance!

I got my first speeding ticket with the Xb in 04, I went to court(philly) to see if they would lower charges, no points but you play more. Well the cop said that I was exesive speeding, and I might have to go to harrisburg(capital of PA) to dispute this ticket. I was doing 100 on a 55 at 4AM!! I talked to the Judge(in philly) and I told her that My son was in the hospital and I was rushing to see him, All B.S. she let me get away with a lower charge but payed $300.
Lucky Me!!
Lucky Me!!
my first ticket was a only warning. and another time a cop let me go and i didn't even have the liscense on me. I was going to school and was late for class so i forgot my wallet.
Some one told me speed ticket point won't count against me in insurance, is that true?

Sometimes insurance companies (varies) will give you the first ticket free, so to speak or waive it. But don't count on that... you don't have to report it to your insurance, but they will be notified through the dmv in most, if not all states. Also, insurance companies do do random dmv record pulls and if they see if you something on there... well count on it going on your insurance.... its on insurance for 3 years, dmv for 1.5.
