What can we say. . . that tC is just so damn hot, it was on FIRE! Smmmmmmokin! . . . hope the humor makes you feel better. And odds are you will be getting a new tC soon, courtesy of Toyota Motor Corp, and hopefully they will throw you a lot of freebies.

i do also. oem parts are so expensive. i just can't see repairing the damage to be less troublesome or reasonable then replacing the whole car. i heard of slashed leather interiors in integra gsr's so expensive to repair they consider it a total loss. i think i heard its like $10,000 new from the factory. don't know how true this is but thats what i was told.

I don't think the car is totalled, per the damage, but I believe that Toyota Motor Corp will likely take possession of your vehicle, as to thoroughly inspect it, as this is a new vehicle, unmodified. I think they have a vested interest to do so, and Toyota usually does a pretty good job of doing so.

Holy crap! I am sooo sorry for your loss! Keep us updated.

I do not think the car is totalled. However, I think (at least I hope) they will keep the car to investigate & you will receive a new one. Good luck!

Does anyone think this will be a wide spread problem? I smell burning plastic when i drive sometimes. I look and smell everywhere and its no where to be found. then it just disappears into the night and comes back some other day.

Wow. Holy crap. I hope for all the tC owners this is an isolated event. I hope for you that someone takes responsiblilty. Pretty obvious the vcar is defective or the install was botched. Eitherway, the dealer should replace, IMO. But, it's their job to ensure they don't

Well, time will tell what they want to do. I hope for everyone elses sake the take the car apart and sort it out.
I don't want this happening to anyone else or someone getting hurt.
I've never had to file an insurance claim before or had anything like this happen to me so I am lost. If anyone has any advice I'm all ears. Looking at the pictures still makes me sick and I can't get the nasty smell of burnt plastic out of the stuff I had in the car.

the car will be a total loss...

all new interior (carpet, seats, dash, doors, headliner and center console), all new electrical wiring harness, labor to put it together...thats 75-80 % of the cars value...

consider yourslef lucky if you do not get this car back...too many problems will come up in the future if its fixed...

as for the claim, just be ready to pay your deductable...(fight or sue toyota for it back...)

are you a smoker??? similar thing happened to my former boss...

I had to rent a car... Dodge Neon... thats painful just by itself. A salesman at the dealership tried to convince me I need to buy a Corolla the moment he saw the car. That didn't do much to bolster my confidence.

Why do you have to go through your insurance? Whats that all about? Is the dealer trying to blame it on you? I would think spontaneous combustion should be covered under warranty.

Don't go through your insurance unless you have to. Even though this is not your fault, ANY insurance claim can result in higher premiums in the future.

Hey just to let everyone know....i just got my new TC on friday and smell some burning stuff too....But i had read here that most people do in the beginning and its normal i guess?? Anyway i have a nokia phone and i plugged the car adaptor into the front lighter and it started to melt my adaptor while i was driving!!!! I smelled a little burning and thought nothing of it but it got worse and realized what was going on and unplugged it quick and tried not to burn myself. Not a good situation to be in while driving. Anyway i havent seen or smelled much else since but im paying attention.

Did you have anything in your lighter outlet????

not sure if anyone else had this problem???
