My tC Had A FIRE!
This is especially scary for people who take naps in the cars. But lets cross our fingers that this is really an isolated incident since there is only 1 reported case of this on scionlife. If another one occurs, start to panic.
I dont mean to hijack the thread, but someone mentioned earlier that they plug their cell phone adapter into the cigarette lighter. Theirs a power outlet inside the armrest that is better for cell phones.
Man I'm sorry for you car. My tc isn't doing so well either since this damn lady backed out of apartment parking and scrapped my whole right side this morning. she also had the nerve to give me an attitude and not admit fault.
its the second time ive got into an accident with this car (first time was my fault and i rather not talk abou it
).
Hopefully this gets cleared quick or else ill have to get a lawyer to deal with her insurance company.

your insurance company will take care of it for sure. Because they don't want to pay for it.

I hear ya. And it doesnt hurt to call them and report it. If it's something totally not related to the car itself call scion and say OPPS!! and have them close the case! simple as that. They want to know these things that's what they are there for. That's not bad advise.
Just wondering: how easy would it be to pry up the tC moonroof enough to drop in a lit match?
Since we're guessing at causes, I thought maybe I'd guess too (they said electrical fire, but without seeing the actual flashpoint, they can't know that for sure). And unfortunately, there are a lot of scuzzy people out there.

I am sure they are going to considered it totalled. I mean i wouldn't want it back if it still had that smell in it IMO. Plus after having to replace all the interior, gauges, wires, dash, mostly everything in the car....they might as well just get a new one and say HERE YA GO! it's way easier that way ya know?

Unbelievable. Glad to hear you're ok and the fire was limited to the car and not the surrounding property.
RE To call or not to call: I'd definitely make sure there is formal documentation with your insurance company and Scion. If this was an anomalous occurance, or if this is a sign of what could happen given a set of circumstances, Scion will want to get to the bottom of it.
It sounds like a faulty interior lighting kit install. I suggest going to Randode if you want interior lighting when you get your new tC(which you should not take anything less).

Sad to hear about your tC, and hope it was just some sort of error made while the dealer was installing the lighting.
As a guess, your tC is a total loss because of the cost of doing a proper repair of the interior.
Stay in close touch with your insurance company AND with Scion customer care - both need to be aware of this incident, and Scion really should be providing a loaner for whatever time is necessary.
If the problem turns out to be dealer install related, your insurance company, their insurance company, and Scion will battle out who pays what behind the scenes. In any case, there should be no un-covered expense out of your pocket.
Work with your insurance and Scion. Keep them informed. Stay informed yourself.
Best of luck on a good and speedy settlement of this.
P.S. Most times getting 'smoke damage' out of items, like those stored in your car, sometimes requires professional care - insurance (yours, theirs, or Scion's) should cover repair/restoration/replacement of those items, too, if required.

man...and i was so mad that some ___ slam their door opend and dent and scratched my driver side door, tried waxing it but it only remove a lil mark that ___ made...i am so mad when i see the dent reflected of the sun. goin to get some touch up paint asap. Man and i thought i had a bad day...sorry dude about your car...when i saw your pic...it shed tears in my eyes and greatful that i only got a dent and not what you had...i am pretty sure that the dealer will do something about it, rather they are goin to get you a brand new tC or repairing it...but i don't see how they can repair with what the fire had caused......good luck dude...hope you get the problem solve soon, and what will you drive in the mean time?
I wouldn't bother with Scion Customer Care UNLESS your insurance company fails to resolve things to your satisfaction. Your insurance company is almost certain to take it up with Scion and make them fully aware of the incident.
Your insurance company should pay for it all above and beyond your deductible, and your warranty should cover you for the deductible itself. If the dealership isn't forthcoming in filing a warranty claim for then you could fall back on the Customer Care of course. But first I'd give them a chance to do right by you.
I guess it goes without saying but I think we're all dying of curiousity what the exact cause of this is - if you ever find out let us know. I park my tC in an enclosed, attached garage, and I usually leave my sunroof open. Yikes. I'm having second thoughts about that now. I think for sure I am going to get another smoke detector and put it in the garage.

So far my insurance company has been very helpful. They helped me tow the car to the dealer and got me a rental car. I have done two telephone interviews with the claims people and supposedly someone is supposed to look at the car in a day or so.
The service manager at the dealership had the nerve to ask me if I was smoking and lit my car on fire. Between the guy yesterday trying to sell me a new car while my old one was still smouldering and the guy today accusing me of lighting my car on fire they are not being very helpful in my eyes.
I did take a min to call the Scion customer service number just to open a case with them and give them a heads up and was sent over to a special department called "product liability" or something like that. Haven't heard back yet.
Thats all the new for now

Sounds like it! Yup, getting a case opened with Scion was the smart move. Make sure you don't let Scion close the case until they have given a pretty solid reason how the fire started, and reimbursed you for your deductible, and that you insurance company has also closed its case.
It sounds like the dealership isn't too interested in your repeat business.
