I have had my car for about 2-3 months now, and I have never had any electrical burning smells,or any problems with my cell phone charger. Hopefully we'll find out if this was just a weird thing, or if it is something serious.

it's weird how the engine wasnt even running and car was totally off and there was still soem kind of fire? i would definitely think it's some kind of problem with the installation of the lights from ur dealership. i don't think you should go to ur insurance seeing how it's 100% car fault for melting itself. dealership should definitely hit u back up with a new ride. i forsee lotta problems if they fix that up and give it back to u

The way it was explained to me is my insurance will deal with the manufacturer to locate the source of the fire and asses blame. They told me "this is why you have insurance." So when accidents, etc happen you have someone to help you.

Wow man I feel for ya... I'm a little teared up ...I don't know what I would do if that happend to my car...but keep your head up I agree with what djct_watt said...I think that toyota would take the car to inspect it...i'd say you should be getting a new tc...if I were you I would call scion or send them an email just to keep the dealer honest...hope everything goes okay

Do you think I should call the customer service number for Scion or just let my insurance deal with it?

Please let me know what dealer you went to. I also had some problems with my Xa when i got "dealer installed" items

My rear spoiler squeked, and rattled for the first month and my tint which I initially paid for was peeling off (got it free after I complained).

I don't feel that the mechanics of some dealers are up to par. IMO

I would be furious at that salesman for trying to sell you another car!! that is just idiotic. I hope you get a new tC man... you deserve it.

Sooo... speaking of which, I guess I won't be trying that dashboard LED mod that people are raving about better safe than melted, I always say.

I'm thinkin' let your insurance company deal w/ it, but keep in constant contact w/ them so you know what's goin' on.

That's when I would have said, "No, this is why I have a WARRANTY. So that when my new car spontaneously catches on fire, it's covered!" I would have demanded they give you a loaner car in the meantime. I hope it all works out for you.

If the dealership had their service department open yesterday I might have asked them to give me a loaner. But, I needed to get to work today so rental through my insurance company was the only option. You should have seen the curious salesmen when I had it towed in though. One even made the mistake of mentioning he had been having some trouble with the tC he owns. Didn't specifiy what the problem is but its still not good to hear lack of confidence in the people selling you the product.

Right now I am just thankful nobody was hurt. I am hoping they can find out what caused the problem and figure out how to get me into a car that doesnt say "Dodge Neon" on it.

Well if you have to pay for a rental car in the begining i guess i can understand. I am sure they want to make sure it's something that wasn't caused by you or something ya know? BUT! when you do find out it was their fault and i am sure it was, then i would demand a refund for your rental car expenses. Well I Hope all your problems get fixed ASAP, and i wouldnt want that car back, i mean it will never be the same, let's hope they give you a new one.
As for calling the scion customer support. I would! call them up and open up a case with them, then when you find out what caused it call them back and let them know. But open a case as of now with scion, because they will contact your dealer and push them to get faster results.

Amen, Bro. I have to admit, reading this has me scared. Not so much that it might happen to my xA, but that it could happen to any car. We park our cars in our garage........our attached garage.

I don't know anything about whether Toyota does a "good" job or not, they have to though, because consider the class action law suit and their reputation on the line.

However, these manufactures will never disclose what's the root cause of the fire. Unless they think it will be statistically significant enough to issue a TSB or recall.

Hope they can figure out what's wrong and compensate you accordingly.

Reminder to self - Do Not get the underdash lighting.

Did you have all the windows up tight? If you did, that's probably why the entire car didn't burn up. The smoke probably choked out all the oxygen and it put it's self out. I bet if would have had a window cracked, the car would be gone.

Yea the windows were up so I think it choked itself out. It kinda burned all the essential parts of the igntion and behind the radio is all melted through so its like I took a hit to the vital organs.
