For future reference file a complaint with the NHTSA if such an occurance happens. Even if the manufacturer blames the dealer. There's no neutral party when it comes to Mfg and Dealer relationship.

Do it online. You paid taxes for a reason:

Given the circumstances, I think Scion should help you out some in finding the tC you want.... I wouldn't settle for just whatever is on the lots

If anyone has a friend at a Toyota dealer (or any car dealer for that matter) that has something comparable to a tC on the lot I am searching for a new ride and I only have 10 days or so.

Just wanted to let you all know that as of Friday I am a Mazda3 owner. Toyota bought my car back from me so they can make sure the fire was just a freak accident and won't happen to anyone else. Everyone I have talked to at Toyota has speculated it was cause by an inproperly installed underdash lighting kit.

Sad to see the tC go but my new 3 is an amazing car. Best wishes to all of you. I am off to the Mazda3 forums I guess.

Traitor! j/k

Sad to see you got the Mazda, I'm sure it was the underdash lighting. Good Luck.

Why would you think it was the under dash lighting though? Besides jimallison has messed around with his dash before, who's to say he didn't cross something up then...or even mess something up recently. Here have a look for yourself:

"I am determined to change all the amber lights in my tic to blue and red, VW Jetta style, so I attempted to disassemble the center console today. Got down to the circuit board that controls all the climate control buttons and the display but couldn't get any further. Anyone else has any luck? Here are some pics incase you are curious what it looks like:
Back of the center stack with the cover on:
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=354637&highlight=#354637"

He had his dash taken apart down to the controller board! I had my xB apart and I noticed a fuse on the lighting harness (yellow), and I also noticed it was drawing off the power of the cigarette lighter. So if you do the math there would be two fuses right there. Anyone that knows anything about car electronics or any electronics for that matter would know that those fuses would pop before a fire could start. I just think saying the lighting was the cause, would be premature.

Congrats on the 3 -- 3s or 3i? I'd be driving a 3s today if there had been one in black with a moonroof and SAB in the entire Pacific Northwest last summer...

Funny that he never mentioned that in this thread...I'd have thought it was kinda important. I'm SURE he mentioned it to Scion corporate, though...

I never mentioned it on the thread cause it had nothing to do with the underdash lighting burning my car. Just cause I don't have tC anymore doesnt mean you can bash me on this board.

give the kid a break, the Mazda 3s is a sweet car and its solid competition for the tC, I almost bought one but the tC was cheaper. Goodluck

I suggest you join the http://www.msprotege.com/ forum, its one of the best i've been on (used to own a protege5)

Ummm, according to the rulebook, yes we can, and it's even encouraged! Remember, Mazda<Toyota!

I was just wondering what dealership installed your underdash lighting? Also did they give you full value on the car?

Hey, if Scion and any other investigators had that info when they came to their conclusion, good on ya.
