Default problems with engine...??

i got my TC a little less than a week ago.. i realized yesterday that the engine makes LOTS of noise.. once I start my car, it gets REALLY loud.. i can hear it run with my music up on volume around 20.... louder than my old car.. shouldn't it be quiet because it's a new car..?? our new maxima isn't like this.. of course i am comparing apples to oranges but the point is.. IT'S A NEW CAR...!! is your's loud too..?? louder than 'normal'...??

I'm not sure. How cold is it and what RPMs are you at?

You're going to have to be more specific on the "loud" part. Like the other guy asked... what are the RPMs? It may be automatically revving up if it's cold.

this is when i FIRST start my car.. when it's still in park.. i was driving some where for about 5 minutes and arrived at my house.. i could hear the engine running loudly inside my car before i turned of the engine so i stepped outside to listen for it. it was very loud. i don't know how to describe it.. gosh.. this is so hard since i guess you guys would actually have to hear it to see if there's a problem with it...

Well I don't notice mine being loud at all, so take it to the dealer. That's what a warranty is.

the tc engine is loud itself.. take in mind that it is a 2.4, bigger displacement, bigger motor, more noise.. your altima makes no noise because of all the sound deadening it has.. my tc is fairly loud.. it just makes noise.. plus it ticks.. those are the injectors

I have noticed my daughter's tC to be a little louder than I thought it would be.. BUT, it is a really big motor, for an inline 4....

Sometimes when I start my tC, I hear a single clunk sound coming from the engine, I think it only happens when I have the AC on so it might be the AC fans starting. Anyone else hear the same sound?

The tC actually has an impressive amount of sound deadening.

If you're going to compare though, compare to a like car, not a family sedan. I'm used to driving economy 4 cylinders and the tC is dead quiet in comparison. Maybe you're just spoiled?

A single clunk might be the ABS self test.

Ticking I know, is characteristic of direct injection. I don't know if it's normal for these cars - I don't hear any such noise on my other cars but they aren't multi-port injected.. they only have one injector a piece.

The motor in the tC is a tractor engine (IMHO). It is based on the the old 22r engine, which is bullet proof (I have 190,000 on my 87 pickup). It is a "tappy" sounding motor.

i have an 06 auto with no probs and over 5 k in mileage same ticks and clicks as always. If you got a clunk squeak or a knock, take it in. What's the worst they will say "nope that is normal" or " yeah we need to fix that" and you will have your peace of mind back of knowing what it is.

i dont have any clunks, squeaks, etc... its just that i can HEAR the engine running very loudly.. i thought that it's an abnormal thing for an engine to be running THAT loudly.. but i guess it's ok..?? just that i never experienced it with my other cars.. i'm just being very paranoid with my new car... sorry guys..

I dont think it to be that loud. I also have the TRD Exhaust and when i sit in the car at a stop..it's pretty much dead quite in the cabin area...just a little purr from the exhaust that's about it.

You sure its not the cooling fan... that tends to be pretty loud...

yeah pop your hood with the engine running and see if it's the fan's roar noise that is the noise you're hearing.. i noticed it runs a lot.. they changed these engines after the sludge problems of the previous generation, those engines ran too cold (hence the oil sludging up).. this engine runs a lot hotter, and needs the cooling fan. so check that and see if that's the noise you're hearing..

I know that this engine makes more of a roar type noise than the civic i last had.. But I expect that because it's bigger, plus they have tuned the exhaust to hear the throttle.. I notice more noise when on the highway or under accleration.. but other than that i find it to be nice and smooth and quiet
