Default Replacement key

Anyone know where to get a cheap transponder replacement key for the tc , dealer quoted $56.00 plus $40 to program it. I just need to find a website that sells it for cheaper, dont need the key with the remote head, just the valet with the built in transponder chip. Thanks!

Even still you will need to program it to the car or the key will not work. Im suprised its $40 bucks to program it though. Usually its about 1 min to program it, and if you only have the transponder it means you need to put the keys in the ignition in a certain sequance. You may be able to contact Scion and get that information from corporate.

I would tell the dealer to drop the $40 tag for programming though. Thats BS

Worth a look:

Scroll down to Scion tC section. Says transponder keys are available for $8.95

My wife bought some for a Mustang some months back online that were very reasonable too, but she is asleep now, so I'm not going to wake her to ask her where.

I'll find out and post it later if they have them for the Scion.

Usually through a sequence of putting keys in and turing hte car to run, i.e. Put programmed key in for 7 secs, remove and put in different programmed key in for 3 seconds, remove and put in new key and turn too run. New key programs.
I don't know how the scion ones work exactly.

And thats only for integrated fobs. (Fob on Key)
When you have a detached fob it works differently.
