RS 3.0: WIND NOISE FIXED
The info is in the other thread about the wind noise, but since the title hasn't changed, I'm not sure how many people have learned about it. If a mod would like to handle the dual threads (I suggest locking the other thread and putting a sticky on this, but that's just me) that would be great, but this info is important, as I know of at least one dealer that has, how shall I say, molested the heck out of somebody's tC and scarred it for life in an effort to figure it out. I just don't want that to happen to you too.

See that in the red box? I know it's hard to see, but squint and see what you can do. If you pop your hood, and look straight down, you'll see what I'm talking about. It's just a black strip of rubber that helps fill the gap between the hood and the front grill. It's attached with some screws and comes right off. Take it off, or instruct your local dealer to take it off for you. Do this, and your noise will be fixed.

thanks for all the help. I was just asking if anyone had this problem. I just purchased this car last night and noticed it. On the way home i heard it and wondered what i had just gotten my self into. I thought it was going to have more problems from then on.
what is the purpose of that black thing
Nothing will fall off.

GREAT POST!!! Bought this for my wife two weeks ago and the damn thing went back in twice for resealing the windshield...she's only had it in her possession for 4 days in two weeks. Picked it up tonight...they swore it was fixed....but once we hit 70, there it was again! Came here, typed in 3.0 wind noise, grabbed the screwdriver and had it gone 4 minutes later. Can't WAIT to call the stealer in the AM and explain this to them....LOL
Should I now be worried that they have my Jeep for a couple of minor fixes???!!!

I would assume it might do the same for both if you have the rubber strip. It's easy to take off/put back on if it doesn't help. Unscrew all the screws (10?) and then gently peel up the rubber working from one side to the other and leaving the 3M base tape in place...I used a fingernail to separate it from the rubber. Put the pieces aside and take it out for a spin...ours normally started around 70 mph....I went up and down from 70 to 90 for a few minutes and that seemed to stop it. I'll give it a day or so and then go ahead and strip out the 3M tape too if it solves the problem. I MAY try to add some generic weather stripping from Pep Boys to the same spot to help seal dirt/dust out of the engine compartment....it's a lot thicker and stronger than the Scion junk piece. I'll keep you posted. Give it a shot...10 minutes tops from start to finish....and the possibility of no more whistling!
i have a wind noise but it sounds like its coming from the dash some where...like air is coming in somehow....is that the same noise everyone is hearing on here???
it could be my windshield..i did have it replaced..they have not sealed it right?

Now, with all the respect that you guys deserve...If that piece of plastic is there from factory, is because it's suppose to be there. I also have a Flint Mica tC 07 and I don't have the wind noise problem while I'm driving it. I guess instead of us fixing the problem, we should let know Scion about the problem o__o!
It sounds like it's coming from the front bottom of the windshield to me...others thought it was from the sunroof and even the BACK seat....LOL They pulled and reinstalled the windshield, replaced the leading edge strip at the top of the windshield etc. with no results. (6 days in the shop!!!!) Give it a shot...if it works, great. If not, put the strip back in and look elsewhere.
The "screws" are just plastic screws that force the surrounding "shims" to grip underneath the edge of the metal they go through. If it won't come undone, reach your fingers over and under the lip and squeeze the "shim" together slightly and then turn the screw with your screwdriver...should come loose. If not, put a thin, flathead screwdriver under the edge of the screw while you turn it and you should be able to get it to pop up and out. Save them in a bowl or something so you don't lose anything while you're checking.
I plan on telling Scion about this...took them 6 days with NO CLUE...took me 15 minutes with this site's help.....In fact, I can't wait to tell them...;) Why shouldn't we fix it AND tell them? I plan on getting them to pay for or supply real rubber lining to replace this crappy factory piece. You would not believe just how flimsy it is...hold a piece of paper stretched tight and blow on the edge of it and you'll see clearly how this thing works to make the noise.
