Are Scions Crap?
I have had my BSP tC (5 speed) for a little over a month (only 600 miles though) and have had absolutely no problems at all... perhaps late year 2005s dont have these problems either.. or I haven't driven enough.
Tranny problems? I personally haven't heard of any, besides people not liking the gear ratio (Wich i think the ratio rocks! so much fun to drive). Rattles and squeaks? Yah i have rattles and squeaks, nothing major that having my radio on the "10" setting on my volume control can't handle. The largest problem for the tC I think would have to be the Sunroof (although I don't have any problems with mine yet) and the TIRES a close 2nd. Potenzas are absolutly teh suck when it comes to grip and traction.

but n e way, GM sucks also, in my thoughts about GM, it's a company that is a total failure, and inorder to surivive, they buy out other companies, and live off their profit for a bit, while doing that, they screw up the quality of those cars. therefore toyota is here to save their asses
but anyway, about scions, yeah they are fairly new car, i am not sure when have they been out, but maybe 3 years ago? can't rmemeber, is when i first heard about them, that's 3 years man, a begining of a new car company. It is bound to have some bugs
life is all about risks, you can give it a try, if not sell the car. Depreciation of japanese car are close to nothing for the first year.

keep in mind that GM consists of the sales of 9 or so different companies compared to the three components of the Toyota Corp (toyota, lexus, scion), scions first year of sales as well. This is only comparing sales in america too...
I do agree that Japanese companies have jumped far ahead of the domestic competition, and GM does have a laid back styling ( stuck in the 80's). Even if they are getting better, GM is still far behind the fit and finish of Toyotas quality. GM would have to dump massive amounts of money into the manufacting line and new engineering methods, putting them further behind.... just my opinion

I bought my BSCP tC last July so it will be a year.. i have absolutely no problems with the car at all. the intake noise comes from the throttle body and personally, i think it sounds cool. LOOK. the tC is a sporty kinda car. IF YOU DONT WANT THE SPORTY KINDA LOOK OR FEEL OF A SPORTY CAR, THEN GET A MINIVAN. YOU WONT FEEL A THING! I love my tC and i have no complaints so far.
I didn't read all the posts, so ignore me if you have already heard it; but this forum is going to give a sort of negative impression of Scions, because when your car is running fine, you dont really have much to say. But as soon as something goes wrong with it, you are going to be on here telling everyone, and see if they are having the same problem.
Personally, besides the accident I had that needs some body work, I love my TC and have had no problems.
FYI:
About 4 months and over 12k miles. A lot of highway miles.

the only problem im having is rattling, which is not a major problem. all new model cars have problems. remember when the Ford Focus came out? That car had like a million recalls. The tC doesnt even have a single recall yet. it does not have many problems for a new model car. the forum makes it seem like the car has a lot of problems but thats only because everyone posts only negative things, and not very positive which is common

But yes, isolated problems and/or people now knowing how the car works.

Toyota/Scion is a great brand, with great quality, everyone on earth knows that, but for the love of god, stop with the fanboyism.

The tC is a great car, I'm a college student also.. my last car (1999 Infinity I30) crapped out on me enough to the point wherei found my self looking for a new car. When I looked at Scion's i thouhgt strongly about the xB, because i'm into sounds and wanted to have a car that banged. I liked the tC because it stuck out i thought.
But, 20 stacks was alot compared to the 16 the xb was going to be.
The reason there are rattles and all these little "design" issues is because Toyota has never designed a car as such. There are few (if any) engine or transmission problems because alot of the engine build has been taken from the camry. The car is great, and has 4+ years backing the preformance. If your worried about rattling or any of the other problems, they all should be covered by the warenty and most of the time are only noticed by the pickiest of people.
The only problem i have suffered with my tC is that the dealer installed a 2005 radio in a 2006 car. one call and it was fixed in 18 hours (no lie). The tC is a great car, I would have bought one over my infinity (even before the problems)
