Default Shift **** area.

Did a little searching around the forum and wasn't successful (possibly because I don't really know how to word it). The tC comes with the little leather cloth around the Stick Shift ****. I know some of you have changed this cloth to what ever your preference is but I was wondering if I could strip it all together and get a little sports car type of look? if so how would I go about doing it or if mabey there are kits out there that would let me do it. Here's a pic of what I'm thinking.
Anyone do this?

you'd probably have to fabricate something yourself; ive never seen such a product available for our cars.

Thats from a ferrari right? Well its not going to be easy but you will have to do it yourself. The whole thing starting from the base. Its a different build look how much more its spread apart and how far you have to move it.

yea that one's from a ferrari. so i take it that if i were to get one of these i'd have to build one myself. Would the metal plate be the only thing that i'd need to make myself or would there be alot more i'd need to have custom made? I assume I could use the stock stick just strip it from the cloth or no?

I think you could just make a plate, if you can machine one then you're golden. You'll obviously have to study the distance between shifts and such.

It'd be interesting, but something I always (in my mind) reserved for supercars and stuff

i have thought about this a lot, but it would not be possible. the reason is in the ferrari, the pivot point of the stifter is a lot lower than in most other cars specifically in the tc, the pivot point is only about an inch or two from the base of the console. this means that movement is no where near the amount that you would need to have a gated shifter. just look at the ferrari's... each gear is almost an inch apart. impossible for this to work without sinking the shifter and lowering the pivot point. i do know that they have made a gated shifter kit for a jetta... $1500. not worth it.

ah. I see what you're talking about. So if i were to put the metal plate in, it would just block the shifts regardless of how wide the holes in the plate would be because the pivot point is too high. aright thanks.
