Default Shift Points.

For all the manual car drivers out there.. Specially the "TC" since the gearing is soo low..

Where does everyone shift their car under a normal driving period.

I shift my car at 2 grand outta first, then second, then third to 4th im at like 1800 then 4th to 5th is about 1800.. Thats under a chilling mood..
I was tryin the gas mileage thing.. But it didnt seem to make a difference from a regular mood of shiftin at like 2500-3000 all the way throught..

I don't drive a tC, but having the lower gears are actually a blessing in disguise. Toyota geared it this low b/c it easily provides the torque to keep consistant acceleration without all the revs.

In my ep....4.7 final drive

80 mph in 5th gear im cruising at 4100 rpms or so....which feels like ALOT. heh

buuut

when im having fun

I usually shift at 3k for all my shifts, seems to be the happy point, and I've tried shifting way low for a full tank and it only affected my MPG by 1-1.5.... and I was having fuuuun on the tank before....

my shifts usually go like this.....

1-2 - 3k
2-3 - 3k
3-4 - 3.5-4k
4-5 - 4-5.5k depending.....

I usually cruise in 5th at about 50mph or about 2500-2750rpms

when my car is warming up in the morning I shift even earlier than that on purpose.... don't want to get into the habit of driving it hard as soon as I turn the key.... I don't shift it high till that coolant needle is happy. course when I REALLY want to go fast I push it to bounce-point... but I haven't really pushed it that hard yet... she's my baby :D

I'd have to take a guess and say third, our gearing is shorter and 4th tops out at around 80, 3rd tops out at about 50 and hondas rev through the roof to make up for their low-end torque - but I do have to day Si's are their better cars...
