So I disconected my snorkle..
Just one plasticy screw and out it comes.. well, its actually pretty neat in the way that all you have to do is disconected the snorkle and shove it into the side wall, i couldnt manage to actually remove it from teh car, so its shoved down into the side wall, it sounds moderatly intakey now. a real nice 3500 rpm growl!
i now however have a small screwdriver inside my front bumper somewhere

This... after you started a thread bashing those for doing this?
I agree, you are just drawing warmer air now (probably not to a real notiecable amount, but you probably are getting slightly less power). But I guess if you like the sound...

There is no noticeable difference in power. The sound is there if you listen carefully around 3500rpm. I find there to be slightly better throttle response since the air has slightly less to travel.
By drawing in air that is 10 inches closer to the engine, sure, it is technically a TOUCH warmer, so that would decrease power maybe .5hp. By the same token however, slightly warmer air means slightly better gas mileage! Both mpg and hp should not even be discussed here b/c it is so minimal, but if you are all going to talk about the negatives of doing it, you have to talk about the positives as well! The other positive is of course as I mentioned, throttle response, again however minimal, but as is the hp loss.

so now I want to know this. intake snorkle is gone. has your gas mileage improved at all? we xB guys did that and we all get better mileage which is a plus in this day and age or gas price raping. So rather than worry about how it sounds, how about give us some usable data from this. My xB went from 25 mpg to 32 with a dirty filter and back to 25 with a TRD drop in. Altho the car is quicker to the punch, I want my mileage back now. SO, time to take it easy and let us know if you are getting better mileage.
